Material Thinking is a ground-breaking book for artists, and for those who study or teach in the arts. Author and artist Paul Carter provides an intimate, first-hand account of how ideas are turned into works, and how the material thinking these artworks embody produces new understandings about ourselves, our histories and the culture we inhabit. Taking as his subject several artistic collaborations which resulted in performances, exhibitions or videos, Carter explores how each unfolded. In the course of this analysis he constructs a philosophy of how the practice and theory of making art are interconnected, a philosophy powerful enough to provide an intellectual underpinning for the new, and still developing, field of creative research. ---- 'Here is startling, practical erudition. Prodigious book-learning is laced with real understanding of what it means to make art, to infuse sullen matter with something rousing, delicate and vital.' -Ross Gibson, Research Professor of New Media & Digital Culture, UTS 'For twenty years I have campaigned for, and conducted, research in the medium of architecture itself, research that is not "about" architecture but "of" if. Carter begins by drawing the same distinction, but his ambition is greater: he seeks to explore and define research in the zones where creative mediums shade into each other. To work in a zone is to collaborate with practitioners who are centred on their medium of practice. Carter posits a new role for the critic, not outside looking in, not "about" practice but inside, "of", and pushing practitioners towards the liminal, and thus toward the innovative.' -Leon van Schaik, Innovation Professor of Architecture, RMIT

With Design Reinventing Design Modes written by Gerhard Bruyns and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-11-05 with Architecture categories.
This collection stems from the International Association of Societies of Design Research (IASDR) congress in 2021, promoting the research of design in its many fields of application. Today's design finds itself at a critical moment where the conventional ‘modes’ of doing, thinking and application are increasingly challenged by the troubled ideology of globalisation, climate change, migration patterns and the rapid restructuring of locally driven manufacturing sectors. The volume presents a selection of papers on state-of-the-art design research work. As rapid technological development has been pushing and breaking new ground in society, the broad field of design is facing many unprecedented changes. In combination with the environmental, cultural, technological, and, crucially, pandemic transitions, design at large is called to fundamentally alter its modes of practice. Beyond the conventional models of conducting research, or developing solutions to ‘wicked’ problems, the recoupling of design with different modes should be seen as an expression to embrace other capacities of thinking, criticisms and productions. This selection of proceedings papers delivers the latest insights into design from a multitude of perspectives, as reflected in the eight thematic modes of the congress ; i.e., [social] , [making] , [business] , [critical], [historical/projective], [impact], [pandemic], and [alternative] with design modes. The book benefits design researchers from both academia and industry who are interested in the latest design research results, as well as in innovative design research methods. In presenting an interesting corpus of design case studies as well as studies of design impact, this comprehensive collection is of relevance to design theorists and students, as well as scholars in related fields seeking to understand how design plays a critical role in their respective domains.

In the Book The Destiny and Signs of God—Spiritual Psychoanalysis the author makes an analysis of his life through the lens of which he tries to convey to the reader God's way of communicating with each of us. His life experience is like a model for every reader to learn to communicate with the Universe/God directly without interpreters and without intermediaries—a unique and personal communication with the Universe from the entire Universe. The Destiny and Signs of God contains a poignant set of addictively chronicled teachings about our communication with God in person and shows how we can mobilize ourselves to get the answers to so many situations in our lives. Who are we? Where do we come from and where do we go? How can the paths we choose determine the destiny of our lives? In this book, you will find specific solutions to save yourself and our civilization from the nightmare of the material life. This book makes the connection between science and the Kingdom of Heaven. So far, our civilization has developed only one method of communication—OUR EVERYDAY INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION. Time has come for all of us to learn a second method of communication—to commit our thoughts to COMMUNICATING WITH THE UNIVERSE. This book is a new vision of ourselves and the whole universe. The author, a psychiatrist, has described a new form of psychoanalysis known as spiritual psychoanalysis, through which the reader will discover a way of communicating with the universe—the signs of God—as well as a new form of thinking: spiritual thinking. By interacting with the Universe, we communicate with God, and God is THE ONLY ONE in the Universe WHO can give us the best advice regarding our choice to build up our destiny and secure ourselves with a sound and continuous evolution.

Practice-led research is a burgeoning area across the creative arts, with studio informed doctorates frequently favoured over traditional approaches to research. Practice as Research: Approaches to Creative Arts Enquiry is specifically designed as a training tool and is structured on the model used by most research programmes. A comprehensive introduction lays out the book's framework and individual chapters provide concrete examples of studio-based research in art, film and video, creative writing and dance. Comprehensive in its approach, the volume draws on thinkers including Deleuze, Bourdieu and Heidegger in its examination of the relationship between practice and theory demonstrating how practice can operate as a valid alternative mode of enquiry to traditional scholarship.
