Young People S Life Skills And The Future written by Janet Powney and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Learning categories.

A study investigated what Scottish and English young people consider important life skills, how they believe they develop them, and how necessary they see them to their future lives. More than 200 16-21-year-olds examined photographs of events related to basic life tasks, family, close relationships, work or school and leisure activities and then identified skills involved. Life skills they identified as important largely agreed with those described by education authorities. They considered the most important, essential life skills to be communication and interpersonal skills. Young people believed these skills were also those that employers consider essential; valued and saw employment experience as the major influence in developing life skills; added creative and aesthetic skills and physical and coordination skills to the traditional list of key skills; described wide applications of problem solving and critical thinking skills; and saw family, work, friends, and school as the main influences on skill development. Future considerations were identified as school curriculum; work experience; creative and aesthetic skills and motor coordination skills; interagency cooperation; information and communication technology; socially disadvantaged young people; community education services; learning support; and promotion of a culture of learning. (Appendixes include 17 references and life skills matrixes for 16- and 21-year olds.) (YLB)

Girls Education And Empowerment written by Geeta Menon and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-12-31 with Education categories.

The book builds an understanding on the issue of girls’ education and empowerment in the backdrop of a broad geographic canvas of countries in South Asia. Using select education and gender-related indicators and qualitative data, it presents the status of girls’ education across these countries. It proceeds to explore the dominant structural, systemic, situational, and macro- and micro-level inter-related barriers to girls’ education. Country-specific situational issues like economic crises, political instability, natural disasters, and conflict that impact girls’ lives and education are underscored for contextual understanding. Within this landscape, the impact of COVID-19 on girls’ education has also been discussed. The book’s uniqueness lies in its approach to linking praxis with theory by distilling the fundamental principles and assumptions underlying the strategies, using these for theorizing and generating discourse in the field. The attempts to theorize are multidisciplinary in nature as they draw from the disciplines of Sociology, Psychology, Education, Development Studies, Conflict Studies, and Gender Studies. This book would be useful to the students, researchers, and teachers working in the fields of Education, Development Studies, Gender Studies, Social Work, Sociology, and Psychology. It would also be an invaluable companion to policymakers and professionals from government and non-government organizations working in the fields of Education, Social Development, and Gender.

Positive Youth Development Through Sport written by Nicholas L. Holt and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-06-26 with Sports & Recreation categories.

Cutting through the political rhetoric about the power of sport as a tool for social change and personal improvement, this book offers insight into how and why participating in sport can be good for children and young people. Still the only book to focus on the role of sport in positive youth development (PYD), it brings together high-profile contributors from diverse disciplines to critically examine the ways in which sport can be used to promote youth development. Now in a fully updated, revised, and expanded third edition, Positive Youth Development through Sport covers a wider range of disciplines including sport psychology, development psychology, physical education, sport development, and sport sociology. With every chapter asking why, what, so what, and what next, the book introduces the theoretical basis and historical context of PYD, quantitative and qualitative methods for assessing PYD in sport, and the potential of PYD in sport across different ages and abilities. This edition includes brand-new chapters on PYD in schools, in Indigenous populations, and across the lifespan, as well as new material on evaluating PYD programs and new case studies of PYD around the world. This is invaluable reading for all students, researchers, educators, practitioners, programmers, and policy makers with an interest in youth sport.
