Ecology Of Epiphytic Lichens In A Montane Spruce Forest written by Markus Hauck and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Science categories.

Epiphytic lichen distribution on trunks of Norway spruce (Picea abies) and its dependency on chemical site conditions were studied in a montane woodland of the Harz Mountains in Northern Germany. Five forest stands were selected, which differed in injury due to forest dieback, in the type of forest management and in age. For testing the impact of forest dieback, a 160-year-old healthy (or only slightly affected) selectively-harvested forest was compared with a 150-year-old heavily damaged stand. Differences in tree damage between the stands are assumed to be due to soil conditions. The soil in the heathy stand was less acidified, whereas amounts and element content of incident precipitation did not differ between the stands.

Lichens In Southern Woodlands written by K. Broad and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989 with Nature categories.

A working knowledge of lichen ecology is important to all foresters, as it can reveal much about the age and health of woodland. This illustrated guide describes lichen and where they can be found, and assesses the effect of various management practices on lichen abundance and species diversity.

Bryophytes And Lichens In A Changing Environment written by Jeffrey Bates and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992 with Nature categories.

This volume presents a synthesis of new information about the responses of bryophytes and lichens to changing environmental conditions, particularly those brought about by human activities. Bryophytes and lichens are often treated independently, but as they commonly exist in association they are here described together. Both groups are sensitive indicators of environmental conditions; at various times the use of one group or the other has been recommended to indicate the presence of particular mineral deposits (geological prospecting), soil and site conditions (forestry), level of atmosphere and aquatic pollutants (biomonitoring), ages of rock surfaces (lichenometry), and historical continuity of forests cover (bioindication). Topics covered in this book include physiology, distribution, ecological function, and response to pollution and land management of these organisms.

Physiological Plant Ecology Iii written by Otto Ludwig Lange and has been published by Encyclopedia of Plant Physiolo this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1983 with Science categories.

O.L. LANGE, P.S. NOBEL, C.B. OSMOND, and H. ZIEGLER Growth, development and reproductive success of individual plants depend on the interaction, within tolerance limits, of the factors in the physical, chemical and biological environment. The first two volumes of this series addressed fea tures of the physical environment (Vol. 12A) and the special responses of land plants as they relate to water use and carbon dioxide assimilation (Vol. 12B). In this volume we consider specific aspects of the chemical and biological envi ronment, and whereas the previous volumes were primarily concerned with the atmospheric interactions, our emphasis here shifts very much to the soil. This complex medium for plant growth was briefly reviewed in Chapter 17, Volume 12A. Since it is difficult to determine the precise physical and chemical interactions in the soil, it is even more difficult to determine the important biological interactions among organisms. Nevertheless there is growing aware ness of the significance of these interactions and their effects on physiological processes in the individual plant.
