Empirical verification of knowledge is one of the foundations for developing any discipline. As far as software construction is concerned, the empirically verified knowledge is not only sparse but also not very widely disseminated among developers and researchers. This book aims to spread the idea of the importance of empirical knowledge in software development from a highly practical viewpoint. It has two goals: (1) Define the body of empirically validated knowledge in software development so as to advise practitioners on what methods or techniques have been empirically analysed and what the results were; (2) as empirical tests have traditionally been carried out by universities or research centres, propose techniques applicable by industry to check on the software development technologies they use. Contents: Limitations of Empirical Testing Technique Knowledge (N Juristo et al.); Replicated Studies: Building a Body of Knowledge about Software Reading Techniques (F Shull et al.); Combining Data from Reading Experiments in Software Inspections OCo A Feasibility Study (C Wholin et al.); External Experiments OCo A Workable Paradigm for Collaboration Between Industry and Academia (F Houdek); (Quasi-)Experimental Studies in Industrial Settings (O Laitenberger & D Rombach); Experimental Validation of New Software Technology (M V Zelkowitz et al.). Readership: Researchers, academics and professionals in software engineering."

The dependence on quality software in all areas of life is what makes software engineering a key discipline for today’s society. Thus, over the last few decades it has been increasingly recognized that it is particularly important to demonstrate the value of software engineering methods in real-world environments, a task which is the focus of empirical software engineering. One of the leading protagonists of this discipline worldwide is Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Dieter Rombach, who dedicated his entire career to empirical software engineering. For his many important contributions to the field he has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the U.S. National Science Foundation’s Presidential Young Investigator Award and the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. He is a Fellow of both the ACM and the IEEE Computer Society. This book, published in honor of his 60th birthday, is dedicated to Dieter Rombach and his contributions to software engineering in general, as well as to empirical software engineering in particular. This book presents invited contributions from a number of the most internationally renowned software engineering researchers like Victor Basili, Barry Boehm, Manfred Broy, Carlo Ghezzi, Michael Jackson, Leon Osterweil, and, of course, by Dieter Rombach himself. Several key experts from the Fraunhofer IESE, the institute founded and led by Dieter Rombach, also contributed to the book. The contributions summarize some of the most important trends in software engineering today and outline a vision for the future of the field. The book is structured into three main parts. The first part focuses on the classical foundations of software engineering, such as notations, architecture, and processes, while the second addresses empirical software engineeringin particular as the core field of Dieter Rombach’s contributions. Finally, the third part discusses a broad vision for the future of software engineering.

Managing Software Process Evolution written by Marco Kuhrmann and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-09-15 with Computers categories.

This book focuses on the design, development, management, governance and application of evolving software processes that are aligned with changing business objectives, such as expansion to new domains or shifting to global production. In the context of an evolving business world, it examines the complete software process lifecycle, from the initial definition of a product to its systematic improvement. In doing so, it addresses difficult problems, such as how to implement processes in highly regulated domains or where to find a suitable notation system for documenting processes, and provides essential insights and tips to help readers manage process evolutions. And last but not least, it provides a wealth of examples and cases on how to deal with software evolution in practice. Reflecting these topics, the book is divided into three parts. Part 1 focuses on software business transformation and addresses the questions of which process(es) to use and adapt, and how to organize process improvement programs. Subsequently, Part 2 mainly addresses process modeling. Lastly, Part 3 collects concrete approaches, experiences, and recommendations that can help to improve software processes, with a particular focus on specific lifecycle phases. This book is aimed at anyone interested in understanding and optimizing software development tasks at their organization. While the experiences and ideas presented will be useful for both those readers who are unfamiliar with software process improvement and want to get an overview of the different aspects of the topic, and for those who are experts with many years of experience, it particularly targets the needs of researchers and Ph.D. students in the area of software and systems engineering or information systems who study advanced topics concerning the organization and management of (software development) projects and process improvements projects.

Databases and information systems are the backbone of modern information technology, and are crucial to the IT systems which support all aspects of our everyday life; from government, education and healthcare, to business processes and the storage of our personal photos and archives. This book presents 27 of the best revised papers selected from the 43 papers accepted following stringent peer review for the 2012 International Baltic Biennial Conference on Databases and Information Systems (Baltic DB&IS 2012), held in Vilnius, Lithuania, in July 2012. The conference provided a forum for the exchange of scientific achievements between the research communities of the Baltic countries and the rest of the world in the area of databases and information systems, bringing together researchers, practitioners and Ph.D. students from many countries. The subject areas covered at the conference included databases, data mining and optimization in IS, business modeling, cloud computing, IS engineering tools and techniques, as well as advanced E-learning environments and technologies. The book also includes presentations from two of the invited speakers at the conference: Exponential Growth of ICT: How Long Can It Last, by Prof. Arne Sølvberg and Variable Systems Model in Information Systems Development by Prof. Marite Kirikova.

Distributed Artificial Intelligence written by Satya Prakash Yadav and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-12-17 with Computers categories.

Distributed Artificial Intelligence (DAI) came to existence as an approach for solving complex learning, planning, and decision-making problems. When we talk about decision making, there may be some meta-heuristic methods where the problem solving may resemble like operation research. But exactly, it is not related completely to management research. The text examines representing and using organizational knowledge in DAI systems, dynamics of computational ecosystems, and communication-free interactions among rational agents. This publication takes a look at conflict-resolution strategies for nonhierarchical distributed agents, constraint-directed negotiation of resource allocations, and plans for multiple agents. Topics included plan verification, generation, and execution, negotiation operators, representation, network management problem, and conflict-resolution paradigms. The manuscript elaborates on negotiating task decomposition and allocation using partial global planning and mechanisms for assessing nonlocal impact of local decisions in distributed planning. The book will attract researchers and practitioners who are working in management and computer science, and industry persons in need of a beginner to advanced understanding of the basic and advanced concepts.
