Master's Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,0, University of Frankfurt (Main), language: English, abstract: This paper is about archetypes of a Digital Leader and takes a closer look at the development of a competency requirements profile based on a qualitative literature analysis. This thesis aims to develop a valid model of different archetypes of the DL and to provide those various archetypes with individual competencies. The archetypes match the respective challenges for corporations in their digitalization and transformation process. In order to develop such archetypes and the associated competency requirements, the following research questions will be answered throughout the thesis to define the boundaries of the case. 1. How can various leadership approaches as well as existing archetype and competency approaches be combined to create a new competency requirement profile of a Digital Leader? 2. What different archetypes of a Digital Leader emerge in terms of their competencies in the course of the Digitalization and Digital Transformation? In an environment characterized by transformation, in which long-term planning and reliable predictions are becoming increasingly impossible, competent leaders are becoming indispensable and even vital for organizations. Organizations must identify leaders who possess a comprehensive set of competencies for the emerging requirements. To address this issue, the outline of the thesis is as follows: section 2 introduces a comprehensive overview of the related literature and the definitional boundaries as well as existing approaches are provided. In section 3 the utilized research methodology is covered. This is followed, in section 4, by the presentation of the elaborated model and the results from the interviews will be connected to the research questions. In section 5, the work and the model are discussed and assessed in terms of potential limitations. Finally, a conclusion and outlook for further research requirements regarding the topic is provided in section 6.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich BWL - Beschaffung, Produktion, Logistik, Note: A, Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh, Veranstaltung: Logistics and Supply Chain Strategy, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Rapid manufacturing can be defined as ‘the use of a computer aided design (CAD)-based automated additive manufacturing process to construct parts that are used directly as finished products or components’ (Hopkinson, Hague and Dickens, 2006, p.1). In other words, it is a method where products or components are produced by ‘printing’ digital data as a three-dimensional product using one of different layer-by-layer construction processes (Excell and Nathan, 2010). However, this idea of three-dimensional printing is not new. Formerly known as rapid prototyping, the technology is used for more than a decade to fabricate prototypes for many different areas (Burns and Howison, 2001; The Economist, 2011 a). Nonetheless, with recent research and development, improved fabbing machines have been developed that can already treat different materials such as ceramics, metals, nylons, polymers and others (Reeves, 2008; The Economist, 2011 b). For this reason, different companies of different industries have already started experimenting with rapid manufacturing as an alternative to traditional manufacturing (Excell and Nathan, 2010) in order to make use of the technology’s benefits which undoubtedly exist. The aim of the available report is to illuminate these characteristics and benefits with respect to predicted impacts on the demand of logistics services as well as supply chains in particular. Furthermore, opportunities for logistics companies of gaining competitive advantages from the development of rapid manufacturing are being suggested.

The Lean Approach to Digital Transformation: From Customer to Code and From Code to Customer is organized into three parts that expose and develop the three capabilities that are essential for a successful digital transformation: 1. Understanding how to co-create digital services with users, whether they are customers or future customers. This ability combines observation, dialogue, and iterative experimentation. The approach proposed in this book is based on the Lean Startup approach, according to an extended vision that combines Design Thinking and Growth Hacking. Companies must become truly "customer-centric", from observation and listening to co-development. The revolution of the digital age of the 21st century is that customer orientation is more imperative -- the era of abundance, usages rate of change, complexity of experiences, and shift of power towards communities -- are easier, using digital tools and digital communities. 2. Developing an information system (IS) that is the backbone of the digital transformation – called “exponential information system” to designate an open IS (in particular on its borders), capable of interfacing and combining with external services, positioned as a player in software ecosystems and built for processing scalable and dynamic data flows. The exponential information system is constantly changing and it continuously absorbs the best of information processing technology, such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. 3. Building software “micro-factories” that produce service platforms, which are called “Lean software factories.” This “software factory” concept covers the integration of agile methods, tooling and continuous integration and deployment practices, a customer-oriented product approach, and a platform approach based on modularity, as well as API-based architecture and openness to external stakeholders. This software micro-factory is the foundation that continuously produces and provides constantly evolving services. These three capabilities are not unique or specific to this book, they are linked to other concepts such as agile methods, product development according to lean principles, software production approaches such as CICD (continuous integration and deployment) or DevOps. This book weaves a common frame of reference for all these approaches to derive more value from the digital transformation and to facilitate its implementation. The title of the book refers to the “lean approach to digital transformation” because the two underlying frameworks, Lean Startup and Lean Software Factory, are directly inspired by Lean, in the sense of the Toyota Way. The Lean approach is present from the beginning to the end of this book -- it provides the framework for customer orientation and the love of a job well done, which are the conditions for the success of a digital transformation.
