IP multicast routing is a technique used in computer networks to efficiently deliver data packets from a single sender to multiple recipients. It is specifically designed for applications where data needs to be distributed simultaneously to a group of interested receivers. In traditional unicast communication, a sender sends packets to individual receivers using their unique IP addresses. This creates a point-to-point connection between the sender and each receiver, resulting in duplicate transmissions if multiple receivers are interested in the same data. Unicast is inefficient for one-to-many or many-to-many communication scenarios. Multicast routing, on the other hand, allows a sender to transmit a single copy of a packet, and network routers replicate and forward it to all interested receivers. This saves network bandwidth and processing resources, as the data is distributed only once. Multicast routing uses special IP multicast addresses, typically in the range of 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255, to identify multicast groups. To enable IP multicast routing, routers in the network need to support multicast routing protocols such as Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM). These protocols enable routers to exchange information about multicast groups and determine the optimal path for forwarding multicast traffic. Routers maintain multicast routing tables that specify the outgoing interfaces and next-hop routers for forwarding multicast packets. When a sender wants to send data to a multicast group, it encapsulates the data in a multicast packet and sets the appropriate multicast IP destination address. The routers along the path use the multicast routing tables to determine how to forward the packet to all interested receivers. Receivers interested in receiving multicast data join the multicast group by sending a membership request to the nearest router. The router adds the receiver to the multicast distribution tree, and subsequent multicast packets are forwarded.

Web Caching And Replication written by Michael Rabinovich and has been published by Addison-Wesley Professional this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Computers categories.

In Web Caching and Replication, two AT&T Labs experts bring together real-world implementations, the latest IETF and W3C technical standards, and the field's most advanced research, offering systematic guidance for maximizing Web scalability and performance. The authors first introduce key concepts of Web caching and replication. They introduce HTTP's support for caching and replication, and broadly characterize Web behavior, offering practical rules of thumb for optimizing performance. Next, they focus on caching, helping implementers realistically assess proxy caching, deploy proxies in corporate and ISP networks; and utilize cooperative proxy caching. They offer in-depth insights into cache consistency, and caching the "uncacheable" -- including "cookied" and dynamic content. Part III introduces today's best techniques for web replication, offering in-depth coverage of content delivery networks, server selection, content placement, and more. For all networking professionals, IT professionals, and engineers involved with building or optimizing Internet services or equipment; for content delivery specialists and service providers; and for owners of large sites concerned about scalability and performance.

For courses in Cisco Technology, Cisco Guides and Certification, Routing and Switching, and Network Management. Cisco Router Configuration & Troubleshooting, Second Edition serves as a reference for students studying network and system administration. If your course tackles how to configure and maintain existing Cisco routers as well as get new hardware up and running, add this book to your reading list. The author begins by touching on the foundation behind routing technology: networks, protocols, and hardware. Then he jumps right into router configuration, discussing setup, local and wide area networking, security, and monitoring. By providing advice and preferred practices, instead of just rehashing Cisco documentation, Tripod gives students information they can start using today. The troubleshooting section uses a fictitious company to illustrate the different scenarios an administrator might encounter. It includes situations that deal with Cisco routers, as well as hardware from other companies, mimicking the heterogeneous environment most administrators face.
