This is a sound textbook for Information Technology and MIS undergraduate students, and MBA graduate students and all professionals looking to grasp a fundamental understanding of information quality. The authors performed an extensive literature search to determine the Fundamental Topics of Data Quality in Information Systems. They reviewed these topics via a survey of data quality experts at the International Conference on Information Quality held at MIT. The concept of data quality is assuming increased importance. Poor data quality affects operational, tactical and strategic decision-making, and yet error rates of up to 70%, with 30% typical are found in practice (Redman). Data that is deficient leads to misinformed people, who in turn make bad decisions. Poor quality data impedes activities such as re-engineering business processes and implementing business strategies. Poor data quality has contributed to major disasters in the federal government, NASA, Information Systems, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and most busineses. The diverse uses of data and the increased sharing of data that has arisen as a result of the widespread introduction of data warehouses have exacerbated deficiencies with the quality of data (Ballou). In addition, up to half the cost of creating a data warehouse is attributable to poor data quality. The management of data quality so as to ensure the quality of information products is examined in Wang. The purpose of this book is to alert our IT-MIS-Business professionals to the pervasiveness and criticality of data quality problems. The secondary agenda is to begin to arm the students with approaches and the commitment to overcome these problems. The current authors have a combined list of over 200 published papers on data and information quality.

Hospital information systems (HIS) have changed spectacularly since the introduction of computers in health care organizations in Abu Dhabi as per the Health Authority (HAAD) Standards. These changes were inevitable not only because of the changes in the information technology (IT), but mainly because of the realization of the benefits that a computerized hospital offers. Initially, HIS incorporated financial and partial patient care systems. Later, many hospitals started adopting specialized systems in other areas, such as Outpatient Department (OPD), Inpatient Department (IPD), Emergency Department, radiology and laboratory departments, Support Service (like Facility Management Team, Insurance, Billing, Purchase, Medical Records, IT), and Other Services with more emphasis to patient interest. Now, major hospitals and clinics are focusing on complete Paperless HIS by using Electronic Health Records (EHR), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and E-Authorizations of Insurance Approvals. As a result, the number of the organizational personnel who directly interact daily with computers has also recorded an explosive growth and changing the facilities to Paperless Environment. Due to the complex environment that hospitals function in, the use of HIS has become very important is of importance. When choosing an Information System (IS), hospitals must avoid pitfalls and errors in order to achieve a sustainable computer management information system. The chain or cascade involved in this system include supplier/vendor, local hospital environment and administration, on campus IT staff, continuous quality improvement, and end users. Therefore, the evaluation of HISs is an extremely important issue, which helps to test the effectiveness of these systems. According to DeLone and McLean (1992), the most widely known measure of IS evaluation is user satisfaction. The literature suggests that user satisfaction can play a vital role and can affect users' behavior toward computer use, which, in turn, can also affect the actual usage of the system.
