The beloved Zen teacher presents 14 mindfulness teachings for living consciously and ethically in uncertain times—perfect for social activists, Engaged Buddhists, and anyone eager for long-term global change. If you want to live life as an active agent for change: begin here. Originally formulated by Nobel Peace Prize nominee and Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh during the Vietnam War, Interbeing is a call to collective awakening and a guidebook for getting there. The Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings are a radical expression of Buddhist ethics and morality that offer essential insights for existing mindfully, and not burning out. This fourth edition introduces the most up-to-date revision of the Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings, with fresh commentary on living in contemporary society. Extra depth is added with a new foreword by Sister Chan Khong, one of the first 6 people to be ordained as a monastic by Thich Nhat Hanh, who opens a vivid personal window into the history and lineage of these trainings.

Harmonizing Latina Visions and Voices: Cultural Explorations ofEntornos discursively challenges the erasures, stigma, and silences imposed on women by functioning as a harmonizing choir, a collection of voices to testify on mujerismo, its vision, and its promise for (our) future. This collection puts “on the record” a pathway toward liberation that pushes back against white supremacist projects unleashed by academia, our families, official narratives of the State, and immigration. This book does not seek to equate the experiences of all Latinas or envision a one-size-fits-all response. We harmonize these diverse voices, understanding that these stories, poems, and essays are invoking different spaces, times, and experiences. We offer them as an intergenerational, intellectual, and spiritual dialogue. As a practice, this work centers and contextualizes how women’s resistance is articulated and expressed. The stories reflected in the chapters that follow are often matricentric, transnational, and queer. Some recurring themes center on the policing, policies, and legislations that govern Latina’s bodies and the entornos (social/environmental worlds) in which they move, are detained, or embodied.

Mattering Spiritualities brings together an array of international scholars and practitioners to explore spirituality in embodiment through the lens of performance, performative writing, and performance studies. The book concerns spirituality and takes the body as the site of whatever it is we call spirituality. The methodological assumption is that the opposition of body and spirit is a false binary that calls for re-examination and revision. It stems from the argument that people can deliberately shift their boundaries of perception and knowing through practice, technologies and performative techniques that can alter the way in which they perceive the ecologies in which they are embedded. This approach understands that careful attention to which bodies are performing in any given scenario is crucial, as is a sensitivity to the ramifications of any body’s race, gender, class, and biological ability. Performance can therefore be regarded as anything through which individuals and collectives experiment with bodies as technologies. Each chapter engages with such experiments to explore how bodies experience and relate to other bodies, human and other-than-human, but also how, by mobilizing bodies and changing relationships between them, practitioners can transform people, spaces and places, objects, ecologies large and small, and shift the borders-of-the-known. Such experiments can also reveal intersectional dynamics within given social, political, and biological borders offering new perspectives and angles of analysis. This collection intends to serve transdisciplinary studies and to support varied learning and teaching environments for undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD students.

Here are practice poems, novice precepts, and "Mindful Manners" on how to be a Buddhist monk and nun in the Plum Village tradition. With inspiration for every step in the monastic timetable from "Waking Up" and "Taking the First Steps of the Day" to "Lighting a Candle" in the evening, this book was originally compiled for novices who are still learning how to practice mindfulness in daily life. Thus it is perfect for beginners in mindfulness who wish to make progress in their practice at home, for young people considering a life in a spiritual community, and especially for followers of Thich Nhat Hanh who wish to deepen their understanding of the monastic way of life today.

A radical reframing of the current global food system to address injustices and existential threats The global food system stands at a critical juncture. Food production is among the largest causes of global environmental change and accelerating climate change. The resulting loss of biodiversity and the harmful effects on water and land use have put human life at risk. To date, proposed solutions have downplayed the stakes and ignored the complex social justice and ecological dimensions of these challenges. Feeding the Future offers a radical reframing of how humanity can address the harmful effects and injustices of the current global food system. Rather than pursuing an impossible transformation of the entire system, Nicole Negowetti reveals how communities worldwide are transcending it through innovative, place-based solutions. Through vivid storytelling and rigorous analysis, she challenges conventional approaches to solving food system problems that are being advanced by agribusiness, the food industry, policymakers, and many nongovernmental organizations. She shares the stories of visionary changemakers and communities around the world that are applying innovative, unique strategies to bring depleted agricultural lands back to life, revitalize urban neighborhoods, establish new economic models, and create thriving regional food systems. For policymakers, activists, scholars, and anyone concerned about the connections between food systems, people's health, and the planet's fate, Feeding the Future offers practical pathways forward. By showing how local communities are already building successful alternatives to industrial agriculture, Negowetti offers a compelling blueprint for transforming the existing global food system.

A heartfelt call and primer for community-oriented models of wellbeing in our age of polarization and turmoil. Creating compassionate communities takes more than good will—it requires a dedication to respecting cultural differences while remembering the fundamental spiritual kinship that exists between all people. Activist, counselor, and Buddhist teacher Ayo Yetunde creatively unpacks this condition through the metaphor of Indra’s Net—a universal net in which all beings reflect each other like jewels. She offers a practice path that acknowledges our deep challenges—challenges that increasingly give rise to the temptation of group violence, which she calls mobbery—while showing exactly how we can still listen, learn, and heal together. Drawing inspiration from the Black liberation tradition and from stories from various religions, Yetunde recasts Indra’s Net as the network in which we all have the choice either to succumb to our impulses toward division and brutality or renew our civility and love for each other. The more than 20 practices in Casting Indra’s Net include: Five commitments for healthy, nonviolent living Guided contemplation to water the seeds of your spiritual potential “Mirroring” and “twinning” other people Tonglen (receiving and releasing) and lovingkindness meditations Affirmations
