In the last decades information modelling and knowledge bases have become hot topics not only in academic communities related to information systems and computer science, but also in business areas where information technology is applied. This book includes papers submitted to the 17th European-Japanese Conference on Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases (EJC 2007). The EJC conferences constitute a world-wide research forum for the exchange of scientific results and experiences achieved in computer science and other related disciplines using innovative methods and progressive approaches. In this way a platform has been established drawing together researches as well as practitioners dealing with information modelling and knowledge bases. Thus the main topics of the EJC conferences target the variety of themes in the domain of information modelling, conceptual analysis, design and specification of information systems, ontologies, software engineering, knowledge and process management, data and knowledge bases. The organizers also aim at applying new progressive theories. To this end, much attention is being paid also to theoretical disciplines including cognitive science, artificial intelligence, logic, linguistics and analytical philosophy. The selected papers cover many areas of information modelling, namely theory of concepts, database semantics, knowledge representation, software engineering, WWW information management, context-based information retrieval, ontological technology, image databases, temporal and spatial databases, document data management, process management, and many others.

Model Based Reasoning About Learner Behaviour written by Kees de Koning and has been published by IOS Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997 with Computers categories.

Simulators are becoming standard equipment for interactive learning environments. They allow for attractive teaching with a large degree of freedom for the learner. However, without proper guidance, the learner easily gets lost in a simulation environment. Providing guidance requires an image of what the learner is doing. Acquiring this image by diagnosing the behaviour of the learner is a complex and resource-intensive task for which yet no general approach exists. In this book, we apply existing ideas and techniques from the field of model-based reasoning and diagnosis to interactive learning environments. We present a framework for subject matter modelling and diagnosis of learner behaviour. The framework defines generic techniques for automatically generating subject matter models from qualitative simulations. A generic model-based engine employs these models for diagnosing the learner's behaviour. The framework provides a powerful and reusable approach to individualising guidance in educational systems.

Information modeling and knowledge bases have become essential subjects in the last three decades, not only in academic communities related to information systems and computer science, but also in the areas of business where information technology is applied. This book presents the proceedings of the 28th International Conference on Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases (EJC2018), held in Riga, Latvia from 4-8 June 2018. The aim of the conference was to bring together experts with a common interest in the understanding and solving of problems on information modelling and knowledge bases, as well as those from different areas of computer science and other disciplines who apply the results of research to practice. The 39 accepted papers collected here cover a variety of topics, including: conceptual modeling; knowledge and information modeling and discovery; linguistic modeling; cross-cultural communication and social computing; multimedia data modeling and systems; and environmental modeling and engineering. The book will be of interest to researchers and practitioners alike, and to anyone wanting a better understanding of current advances in information technology.

Much has been said about managing herpesvirus infections since the discovery of acyclovir more than 15 years ago. This book aims to bring practical advice to the key clinician who is faced with managing these infections. It addresses questions like: there are antiviral treatments for many of these infections, but who should be getting these drugs and who should not? What are the advantages, if any, of the new drugs over the old ones? Which patients should be targeted for intervention? What is the clinical reality of antiviral resistance? Where do the up and coming vaccines fit into the picture? When should therapy be discontinued or reassessed? How are patients presenting other than chorioretinitis in AIDS or pneumonitis in transplantation? The contributing clinician scientists deal with these questions and many more. AAAI proceedings describe innovative concepts, techniques, perspectives, and observations that present promising research directions in artificial intelligence. The annual AAAI National Conference and Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence Conference provide a forum for information exchange and interaction among researchers from all disciplines of AI. Contributions include theoretical, experimental, and empirical results. The technical papers published in this proceedings were selected by a rigorous, double-blind review process. The National Conference papers cover a myriad of topics, including agents, artificial intelligence and the world wide web, cognitive systems, constraint satisfaction problems, knowledge acquisition, knowledge representation, learning, model-based reasoning, natural language and information retrieval, planning, robotics, satisfiability, scheduling, search, tractable reasoning, and vision. The Innovative Applications Conference papers feature deployed and emerging applications. These papers will be of special benefit to AI applications developers. In addition, abstracts from the Invited talks, Intelligent Systems Demonstrations, Robotic Competition and Exhibition, SIGART/AAAI Doctoral Consortium, and Student programs are also included in this proceedings.
