Using Portfolios In Student Led Conferences With Gifted And Talented Middle School Students written by Julie R. Pegump and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Student-led parent conferences categories.

In the spring of 2007 I discovered something was missing from the parent-teacher conferences I was conducting. Upon further research, I realized something was not missing; someone was. I implemented student-led conferences using student-created portfolios with sixth and seventh grade gifted and talented students. The study took place during the first quarter of the 2007-2008 school year. Data collection was done using pre- and post-surveys for students and parents. Students and parents also provided comments through reflective writings. The teacher kept a journal of observations and reflections throughout the study. Student-led conferences place the student in charge of the conference. The student shares work with parents and describes their progress and growth in school. The teacher takes on the role of facilitator and provides comments and suggestions as needed. Results indicated students showed an increase in communication skills, responsibility, organization, confidence, and ability to see importance and relevance in schoolwork. Parents seemed to be more satisfied with the conference format and saw positive growth in their child. These results were likely attributed to the artifacts in the students' portfolios and the leadership role students took in their education.
