Hearing Impairment - An Invisible Disability is the first work of its kind to comprehensively cover all aspects of hearing impairment. It covers the following categories through more than 100 contributions from all over the world to constitute an encyclopedia of hearing impairment: - Hearing Basics: What does hearing impairment mean? Its causes and effects are explained through many real-world examples. - Children: Childhood is a time when hearing impairment often begins, so proper treatment at an early stage can help alleviate difficulties and allow for as normal a life as possible. Many case studies from both the developed and developing parts of the world, including Indonesia and Latin America in the latter category, are provided to aid comprehension. - Hearing Aids: Through newly emerging technology and with the help of electronics companies, new and affordable hearing aids are being developed and marketed. The authors take a closer look at this burgeoning field. - Medical Aspects: Medical treatment of hearing impairment has recently shown remarkable change, manifested in improved techniques and applications all over the world. Although mainly of relevance to researchers and practicing physicians, the clear explanation of the medical and technical terminology is likely to be of interest to all concerned with the future of hearing impairment. - Social and International Help: With a wealth of assistance from individuals, NGOs, and international organizations specifically tailored to help the hearing impaired, those in need of guidance can gain confidence from the knowledge that substantial support is available to help them pursue a full and varied life.

Hearing Impairment And Hearing Disability written by Anthony Hogan and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-03-09 with Social Science categories.
The purpose of this book is to challenge people (service providers, people with a hearing disability and those who advocate for them) to reconsider the way western society thinks about hearing disability and the way it seeks to 'include them’. It highlights the concern that the design of hearing services is so historically marinated in ableist culture that service users often do not realise they may be participating in their own oppression within a phono-centric society. With stigma and marginalisation being the two most critical issues impacting on people with hearing disability, Hogan and Phillips document both the collective and personal impacts of such marginality. In so doing, the book brings forward an argument for a paradigm shift in hearing services. Drawing upon the latest research and policy work, the book opens up a conceptual framework for a new approach to hearing services and looks at the kinds of personal and systemic changes a paradigm shift would entail.

Hereditary Hearing Loss And Its Syndromes written by Robert J. Gorlin and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Medical categories.
This definitive reference work replaces Konigsmark and Gorlin's Genetic and Metabolic Deafness (1976). Whereas the earlier volume covered 151 genetic conditions related to hearing loss, this work covers 435. As before, the authors first discuss isolated hereditary hearing loss and then present hearing loss syndromes such as those involving the nervous system, eye, external ear and musculoskeletal system. The discussions are authoritative, practical and well-illustrated, and those of the most important syndromes are very detailed. Introductory chapters deal with the history of the field, clinical approach, embryology of the ear, tooth anomalies and hearing loss, and related endocrine and metabolic disorders. Throughout, the authors pay careful attention to nomenclature and classification. This will be an invaluable resource for all professionals concerned with genetic hearing loss, including medical geneticists, audiologists and otolaryngologists.
