Globalization Modernization And Education In Muslim Countries written by Rukhsana Zia and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Education categories.

Globalisation and modernisation are the buzzwords of the new millennium. They serve to sharpen the focus on the dynamic nature of political, economic and social systems and, in this book, the editor and contributors attempt to locate educational changes in a selected number of Muslim countries within the over-arching global scene. There has been considerable debate about the legitimacy of these terms and both have inspired definitions, nuances and accompanying emotions that run the whole gambit from welcoming acceptance to murderous aggressions. Terms like ancient, medieval or modern, when describing eras in the history of Europe, with the most recent one being referred to as post-modern, have been strongly debated. And, within the broad sweep of globalisation it is argued that there are identifiable stages, with many making for exclusive definitions, others inclusive.

This comprehensive analysis deals with the range of issues raised by the rise of transnational corporations from emerging markets. This insightful book shows that foreign direct investment (FDI) from emerging markets has grown from negligible amounts in the early 1980s to $210 billion in 2007, with the stock of investment now being well over $1 trillion. This reflects the rise of firms from these economies to become important players in the world FDI market. The contributors to this book comprehensively analyze the rise of emerging market TNCs, the salient features of the transnational activities of these firms, the relationship of outward FDI and the competitiveness of the firms involved, their impact on host and home countries and implications for the international law and policy system. The subject of this study is both topical and important and poses a number of challenges that will require considerable policy attention in the future. It will appeal to academics interested in FDI as well as emerging markets. Karl P. Sauvant has gathered together a group of leading academics that makes this an informative and valuable read for anyone interested in the subject, including academics, students at all levels and private sector entities, as well as government officials dealing with outward FDI.

This annual report examines changing trends in foreign direct investment (FDI) flows worldwide, at the regional and country levels and emerging measures to improve its contribution to development. The 2005 edition focuses on the internationalisation of research and development by transnational corporations and its policy implications for innovation, economic growth and development. Findings for the year 2004 show that, after three years of decline in global investment flows, there was a rise of two per cent overall compared to the previous year. This growth was led by the increase in FDI flows to developing countries of 40 per cent, whilst developed countries experienced a 14 per cent drop in their inward FDI. As a result, the share of developing countries in world FDI inflows reached 36 per cent, the highest level since 1997.
