In this timely and urgent work, Hans Kung reminds us: - Every minute, the nations of the world spend 1.8 million dollars on military armaments; - Every hour, 1500 children die of hunger-related causes; - Every week during the 1980s, more people were detained, tortured, assassinated, made refugee, or in other ways violated by acts of repressive regimes than at any other time in history; - Every month, the world's economic system adds over 7.5 billion dollars to the catastrophically unbearable debt burden of more than 1.5 trillion dollars now resting on the shoulders of Third World peoples; - Every year, an area of tropical forest three-quarters the size of Korea is destroyed and lost; - Every decade, if present global warming trends continue, the temperature of the earth's atmosphere could rise dramatically with a resultant rise in sea levels that would have disastrous consequences, particularly for coastal areas of all the earth's land masses. In 'Global Responsibility', the author offers important new approaches and concludes that: - There can be no peace among the nations without peace among the religions. - There can be no peace among the religions without dialogue between the religions. - There can be no ongoing human society without a global ethic.

The Un Charter The Refugee Convention And The Responsibility To Protect Doctrine written by Ainoa Cabada and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2026-01-23 with Political Science categories.

This book investigates three key frameworks applicable to the protection of asylum seekers and refugees: the Charter of the United Nations, the Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, and the Responsibility to Protect doctrine. Through rigorous analysis, it reveals how the current international refugee protection regime embodies a narrow, reactive approach and makes a compelling case that protection should also be preventative. While demonstrating that these three frameworks can work to protect refugee rights adequately, the author identifies significant normative challenges. The research exposes discrepancies and contradictions that potentially undermine the frameworks' effectiveness in protecting vulnerable populations. Building on this, the book advocates for establishing a preventative protection regime grounded in the normative principles of these frameworks. For this, it articulates an R2P Preventative Assessment Tool that integrates the development of protection plans alongside risk assessments. This book posits that shifting the focus of protection towards prevention could assist in minimising the impact of mass atrocities, armed conflict, and/or humanitarian interventions. This thought-provoking monograph will appeal to academics, researchers, students, practitioners, policymakers, and non-governmental stakeholders, including UN officials. Its interdisciplinary approach spans refugee studies, human rights, international relations, international organisations, and global governance. Readers interested in the development and evolution of international legal norms, the UN's navigation of sovereignty and displacement issues, and atrocity prevention will find this work particularly valuable.

The Calling Of Global Responsibility written by Ananta Kumar Giri and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-03-03 with Political Science categories.

This book rethinks and transforms the current discourse on globalization and global justice. It expands the idea of globalization from an economic or corporate context to mean humanization and planetary realizations — moving beyond the boundaries of nation-states and other human-made demarcations. The author challenges the notion of human primacy and makes a fervent call to reconfigure the paradigm of anthropocentrism. Through a careful study of movements for justice and inter-faith dialogue from across the world, the book makes a unique contribution to the emerging study of global responsibility. It also helps us overcome our current civilizational crises and cultivate a new civilization of planetary care and co-responsibility. As part of the Ethics, Human Rights and Global Political Thought series, the volume will be of great interest to scholars and researchers of law and society, especially social movements, political theory, and philosophy.

Contemporary Issues In Business Ethics written by Mary W. Vilcox and has been published by Nova Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Business & Economics categories.

Business ethics is a form of the art of applied ethics that examines ethical rules and principles within a commercial context, the various moral or ethical problems that can arise in a business setting, and any special duties or obligations that apply to persons who are engaged in commerce. Business ethics can be both a normative and a descriptive discipline. As a corporate practice and a career specialisation, the field is primarily normative. In academia descriptive approaches are also taken. The range and quantity of business ethical issues reflects the degree to which business is perceived to be at odds with non-economic social values. Historically, interest in business ethics accelerated dramatically during the 1980s and 1990s, both within major corporations and within academia. For example, today most major corporate websites lay emphasis on commitment to promoting non-economic social values under a variety of headings (e.g. ethics codes, social responsibility charters). In some cases, corporations have redefined their core values in the light of business ethical considerations. Catching business ethics in action, however, remains a seldom-spotted nugget for in reality it depends on the characters of the characters.

Jesaiah Ben-Aharon recalls the founding vision of the United States and reminds the reader of the obligations inherent in the ideals set forth in the Declaration of Independence. After summarizing current world socioeconomic conditions, the author discusses the dire consequences of ignoring the country's obligations. He explains how we can stop the harmful effects of globalization while introducing progressive social structures. Using a concept developed by Rudolf Steiner, Ben-Aharon begins with the human being and an individual's full actualization--a process that the United States is historically and karmically destined to foster. He explains not only how we arrived at our current situation, but how an understanding of America's role in the development of global civil society can help us achieve cultural and spiritual freedom, political equality, and economic cooperation in America and the world. The ideas expressed here have never been more relevant or needed in the world.

Corporate Responsibility And Legitimacy written by James J. Brummer and has been published by Praeger this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991-06-24 with Business & Economics categories.

Drawing upon research from a variety of disciplines, this volume offers a systematic discussion of the issues and assumptions of the corporate responsibility debate. James J. Brummer provides an extensive review of the relevant literature and develops a methodology for treating specific problems of corporate responsibility, illustrating its use in actual practice. The book also proposes a theory of corporate responsibility and legitimacy that builds upon the concept of accountability and explores the relevance of applying methods of study traditionally associated with the humanities to contemporary problems of corporate ethics. The author begins by addressing general concepts and principles including types of corporate responsibility, relations of accountability, models of the corporation, and theories of institutional legitimacy. Part Two outlines the four theories of corporate responsibility--the classical, stakeholder, social demandingness, and social activist theories--and examines their major premises and supporting evidence. Two chapters treat the specific issue of plant closing or relocation in relation to each of the four theories of corporate responsibility. Finally, the author discusses collective and subordinate responsibility, paying particular attention to the concept of whistleblowing. The concluding chapter summarizes the corporate responsibility debate and analyzes various models of accountability. An ideal supplemental text for courses in business ethics and public administration, this volume is also an invaluable resource for executives confronted with issues of corporate responsibility in their own operations.
