Church people in the U.S. can make this age of affluence an age of intentional miracles. The State of Church Giving through 2021: Intentional Miracles (May 2024) is the 33rd edition in empty tomb, inc.’s The State of Church Giving series. Chapter 8 casts a vision of the potential for church members to impact, in Jesus’ name, one of the worst tragedies of our time: the number of children under the age of 5 dying from treatable causes, particularly in 40 countries. Other chapters in the new book update numbers for church member giving and membership through 2021 including: a series for 1968-2021; a larger group for 2020-2021; a group of 11 denominations for 1921-2021; projections in giving and membership based on past patterns; and the basis for the confidence that there is potential among church members in the U.S. to increase their impact on this hurting world. Another chapter looks at giving patterns among all Americans through an analysis of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Expenditure Survey data for 2021. Chapter 8 focuses on key points: What is an intentional miracle? How does pursuing intentional miracles prepare for the future? What makes this present time so special regarding intentional miracles? What would an intentional miracle look like? Are intentional miracles even possible?

The State of Church Giving through 2022 is the 34th edition in an annual series that began with The State of Church Giving through 1989. These analyses consider denominational giving data for a set of denominations fist analyzed in a study published in 1988. The present report reviews data for a composite set of denominations from 1968 through 2022. As of 2022, this composite group included 21.4 million full or confimed members across the Protestant theological spectrum. As of the latest year with relevant data available, 2010, these communions included just over 100,000 of the estimated 350,000 religious congregations in the U.S. Analyses in other chapters present additional data that expands the group of communions to include other Protestants and also Catholics. The broadest data set includes membership of 103 million in 2022.

To Change The World written by James Davison Hunter and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-04-14 with Religion categories.
Christians from every tradition have long desired to change the world for the better, a desire with roots in biblical and theological reasoning. Unquestionably Christians today are no less well-intentioned and no less motivated to do good than in times past. But even taking their aspirations and intentions at face value, argues James Hunter, the implicit social theory that guides so much of their efforts is deeply flawed. In To Change the World he offers three essays, connected and sequential, but distinct, arguing that Christians should finally give up the goal of trying to change the world and the triumphalist attitude that tends to go along with that idea.
