The contributions in this book explore several geologically significant sites and, in doing so, acknowledge and explore not just the geological exposures themselves, but also the people and issues that are fundamentally intertwined with the history of our science and its impact on our society. Through selective examples of outcrops and locales integral to the history of geology, we explore the evolution of modern geology, as well as the geodiversity and geoheritage of our planet. While the volume is far from comprehensive, the chapters contained herein detail a range for geoheritage value, scale of geoheritage sites and potential for geoheritage opportunities that will promote a broader, richer understanding of the complexity of the geoheritage of Earth. Importantly, many chapters offer a cautionary tale of sites almost lost to posterity and submit their take-away lessons for community mobilization towards geoheritage site protection.

Essays on aspects of the natural world, its heritage, and how best to preserve it. Europe's engagement from the late sixteenth century onwards in scientific Earth science inquiry has generated numerous and varied collections of minerals, rocks, and fossils, together with their associated archives, artworks and publications, forming a rich cultural geoheritage held in major private and especially royal and aristocratic collections, museums, universities, archives and libraries. The mines, quarries, geological structures, landforms, minerals, rocks and fossils - or geodiversity - that underpin these collections populate past and present-day Earth science literature. However, for too long their scientific, historic and cultural significance was not universally recognised and generally they were not accorded adequate resources and protection - or geoconservation. Hence, geotourism was developed in the 1990s to raise public awareness of Europe's geoheritage and geodiversity and to promote itsgeoconservation; the volume's theoretical essays and case studies examine these four core geoelements and provide a timely introduction for anyone interested in natural history museums, countryside management, and landscape-basedtourism. Dr Thomas A. Hose is an Honorary Research Associate in the School of Earth Sciences, University of Bristol. He has pioneered the recognition of and research into geotourism, and is the author of the world's first doctoral thesis on the subject. Contributors: Kevin Crawford, Peter Davis, John E. Gordon. This unique book is dedicated to helping promote geoheritage, geoconservation, and geoparks in Africa and the Middle East. Local, regional, global and thematic case studies including a geoheritage toolkit are used to illustrate the scope and depth of geoheritage and highlight some current geoparks and aspiring candidates in Africa, the Middle East, China , Europe, and Australia. This special issue mainly consists of the proceedings of the First International Conference on Geoparks in Africa and Middle East (FICGAME) held in, El Jadida, Morocco in 2011. The conference, hosted by the Faculty of Sciences of Chouaib Doukkali University, was organized by the African Geoparks Network and the African Association of Women in Geosciences incollaboration with the UNESCO Cairo Office.

Geodiversity and geoheritage are emerging topics within the geosciences that are increasingly interconnected to biodiversity research and the humanities through the intersection between Earth and culture. Understanding, recognizing and conserving geodiversity is important for various domains, including geology, geomorphology, geography, ecology, conservation and land management. Geodiversity helps preserve Earth's geoheritage, support biodiversity, manage geohazards and promote sustainable land use. Geoheritage also connects with geotourism development and is integral to territorial development studies. This volume showcases theoretical research and case studies prepared by a stimulating selection of early career scientists alongside experienced researchers. The first part of this book is dedicated to conceptual chapters on geodiversity that consider its links to other studies. The second and third sections present an integrated view of geodiversity, geoheritage and landscape through their management and conservation. This volume charts the diversity of research and those working in the field of geodiversity and geoheritage. Through these multidisciplinary perspectives, we invite emerging and early researchers to continue the conversation and strengthen this dynamic field of study.

Geoheritage Of Volcanic Harrats In Saudi Arabia written by Mohammed Rashad Moufti and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-24 with Science categories.

This book records the geoheritage values of globally significant, yet little-known, volcanic geosites in Saudi Arabia. It is the first of its kind to focus on the Middle East, clearly showing the hidden geoheritage value of the volcanic Arabian Peninsula’s harrats and demonstrating why the Saudi Arabian volcanic fields are unique. Along with the systematic geosite description, the book introduces scientifically founded geoeducational programs that can be used to develop our understanding of volcanic geoheritage values of volcanic fields. It offers a detailed and comprehensive research-based description of four of the most accessible volcanic harratts in Saudi Arabia and an additional summary of other more remote fields. Additionally, it discusses geoeducational programs that could be used to link these volcanic areas and use them in volcanic hazard education.

This Special Issue outlines the role of geoheritage and geotourism as potential touristic resources of a region. The term “geoheritage” refers to a particular type of natural resources represented by sites of special geological significance, rarity or beauty that are representative of a region and of its geological history, events, and processes. These sites are also known as “geosites” and, as well as archaeological, architectonic, and historical sites, can be considered as part of the cultural estate of a country. “Geotourism” is an emerging type of sustainable tourism, which concentrates on geosites, focusing on visitor knowledge, environmental education, and amusement. Geotourism may be very useful for geological sciences divulgation and may provide additional opportunities for the development of rural areas, generally not included among the main touristic attractions. The collected papers focused on these main topics with different methods and approaches and can be grouped as follows: i) papers dealing with geosite promotion and valorization in protected areas; ii) papers dealing with geosite promotion and valorization in non-protected areas; iii) papers dealing with geosite promotion by exhibition, remote sensing analysis, and apps; iv) papers investigating geotourism and geoheritage from tourists’ perspectives.

This is an open access book. Technology has had a huge impact on education and social dynamics around the world. Since the introduction of information and communication technologies (ICTs), such as the internet, smartphones and social media, much has changed in the way we learn and interact with others. In education, technology has enabled students and teachers to access more diverse and engaging educational resources. With internet access, students and teachers can access educational resources from all over the world and learn about various topics and disciplines. In addition, technology also enables distance learning, which allows students and teachers to connect from different locations. However, there are also negative impacts of using technology in education. For example, excessive use of social media and the internet can cause concentration disorders and addiction in students. In addition, too much reliance on technology can also reducestudents’ ability to think critically and solve problems independently. In social dynamics, technology has allowed us to connect with people from all over the world and paved the way for greater collaboration and cultural exchange. However, technology has also brought negative impacts on social dynamics, such as the spread of fake news or hoaxes, cyberbullying, and social media addiction. In this regard, technology can be a very useful tool if used wisely and with proper understanding of its impact. Therefore, to support this, Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta was hold an international conference and Call for Papers The 2nd UPY International Conference on Education and Social Science (UPINCESS) “The Impact of Technology on Education and Social Dynamics” on September 27, 2023. The conference aims to discuss in depth about the impact of technology on education and social dynamics, as well as finding appropriate solutions and strategies to minimize its negative impact and maximize its benefits. Experts, researchers, and practitioners in the field of education and technology from around the world can share their knowledge and experience in this conference, and can encourage collaboration and innovation in this field.
