Pakistan has over the decades become a hotbed for the terrorist ideology often referred to as Jihadism. This book investigates the underlying principles of Pakistan’s foreign policy from 1947 until the present day, and explains the rise of Jihadism as an offshoot of Pakistan’s security concerns. The book goes on to discuss that from its inception as a separate state, Pakistan’s foreign policy focused on ‘seeking parity’ with India and ‘escaping’ from an Indian South Asian identity. The desire to achieve parity with its much larger neighbour led Pakistan to seek the assistance and support of allies. The author analyses the relationship Pakistan has with Afghanistan, United States, China and the Muslim world, and looks at how these relationships are based on the desire that military, economic and diplomatic aid from these countries would bolster Pakistan’s meagre resources in countering Indian economic and military strength. The book presents an interesting contribution to South Asian Studies, as well as studies on International Relations and Foreign Policy.

Political Conflict And Arms Control written by Nasir Mehmood and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing PLC this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-01-24 with Political Science categories.
This book offers a comprehensive analysis of the evolution and development of arms control processes as an integral part of the Pakistan-India grand dialogue, which took place from 1988 to 2008 and it examines the larger political context and its impact on arms control processes. Nasir Mehmood prioritizes four types of political conflicts: Jammu and Kashmir, hostile domestic politics, dissimilar military doctrines, and China as a third party. Mehmood determines their connection and function in restricting arms control during three major rounds of broader security dialogue between Pakistan and India (1988-1994, 1997-1999, and 2004-2008). Through these major rounds of dialogue there are patterns of interaction within and across three sub-cases. This volume, which offers a systematic survey of bilateral arms control processes within the local settings and includes critical theoretical and policy insights, shall be of interest to students and scholars interested in security studies and international relations theory, with a focus on the strategic horizon of South Asia.

This book explores Germany’s political, economic, defence, nuclear and cultural relations as well as defence cooperation with and arms transfers to Pakistan from 1949 to the present day. Pakistan shares a multidimensional relationship with the Federal Republic of Germany, which is its largest trading partner within the European Union and a significant donor. Drawing on extensive English and German language source material, including declassified documents of the German Foreign Office, this book reveals for the first time details of conversations between Pakistani and German leaders and officials. Filling a long‐felt gap in the available literature on Europe‐South Asia relations, this well‐researched book examines mutual perceptions, the complexity, the elements of convergence and divergence as well as the challenges and prospects of Germany’s relations with Pakistan. This book will be a valuable contribution to the field of International Relations, International History, as well as Pakistan’s and Germany’s foreign policies.
