Explorations In Poetics written by Benjamin Harshav and has been published by Stanford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Literary Criticism categories.

This collection of essays, originally published at different times, presents a coherent, systematic, and comprehensive theory of the work of literature and its major aspects. The approach, which may be called "Constructive Poetics," does not assume that a work of literature is a text with fixed structures and meanings, but a text that invites the reader to evoke or project a network of interrelated constructs, complementary or contradictory as they may be. The work of literature is not just a narrative, as studies in narratology assume, but a text that projects a fictional world, or an Internal Field of Reference. Meanings in a text are presented through the evocation of "frames of reference" (scenes, characters, ideas, etc.). Language in literature is double-directed: it relates the Internal Field to External Fields and vice versa. The essays explore the problems of fictionality, presentation and representation, metaphor as interaction between several frames of reference, the theory of "Integrational Semantics" in literary and other texts, the meaning of sound patterns in poetry, and the question of "literariness." This theory and its specific aspects were developed by the author in Israel in the 1960s and 1970s and lay at the foundations of the Tel-Aviv School of Poetics. Revived now, it resonates with the current mood in literary criticism.

Water Imagery In The Book Of Jeremiah written by Mariana Assaf and has been published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-10-29 with Religion categories.

What role does water imagery play in the Book of Jeremiah (MT)? Water imagery, with its complex manifestations—presence of water, drought, and tears—plays a central role in the Book of Jeremiah (JerMT). It provides unity and structure to this Book. This monograph conducts a close reading of all direct and indirect occurrences of water imagery to demonstrate its literary function. It also adopts B. Harshav’s theory of metaphor and frames of reference as a fundamental methodological tool. Harshav’s approach allows for an analysis of water imagery in both its metaphorical and literal meanings. This perspective enables the study to interpret the related images in light of Israel’s real-life experience of atmospheric phenomena, including rain, wind, and drought. It reveals how images within the text interact, evolve, transform, and sometimes contrast with one another. The interplay between the water frame and the covenant frame illustrates how JerMT reinterprets Israel’s history—from the crisis and break of the covenant to its promised restoration. In addition to the detailed examination of the literary function of water imagery, this study also highlights the social, ecological, and theological messages of JerMT.

Deuteronomy And The Pentateuch written by Jeffrey Stackert and has been published by Yale University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-04-26 with Religion categories.

This indispensable monograph synthesizes current debates and offers a new historical and literary analysis of the book of Deuteronomy “In this exciting addition to the Anchor Yale Bible Reference Library, Stackert offers something genuinely new: he brilliantly weaves together biblical scholarship, cuneiform literature, and contemporary literary theory. This clearly written and engaging volume examines how the concept of scripture shaped ancient readers’ understanding of Deuteronomy.”—Bernard M. Levinson, University of Minnesota The book of Deuteronomy introduces and develops many of the essential ideas, events, and texts of both Judaism and Christianity, and it has thus been a resource—and in some instances even a starting point—for investigations of themes and concepts beyond it. In this volume, Jeffrey Stackert deftly guides the reader through major topics in the interpretation of Deuteronomy and its relationship to the other four pentateuchal books. Considering subjects such as the relationship between law and narrative, the role of Deuteronomy in Israel’s history, its composition and reception history, the influence of cuneiform legal and treaty traditions, textual and archaeological evidence from the Levant and Mesopotamia, and the status of Deuteronomy within the larger biblical canon, this book introduces ongoing debates surrounding the book of Deuteronomy and offers a contemporary evaluation of the latest textual and material evidence.

Queer Poetics written by Mary E. Galvin and has been published by Praeger this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-09-30 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Galvin provides a critical look at the intersections between the development of queer consciousness and the poetic experimentations of Emily Dickinson, Amy Lowell, Gertrude Stein, Mina Loy, Djuna Barnes, and H.D., one that places them in a continuum of non-heterocentric existence. While these writers were non-heterocentric in their personal identities, they were also all innovators of modernist poetics. For lesbians and other non-heterocentrically defined writers, the active creation of identity outside the heterosexual economy demands new ways of writing, and this demand manifests itself not only in content, but also in poetic technique. The basic assumption of this work is that the mind which can imagine other sexual orientations and gender identities can and must also imagine new ways of writing, and that a consideration of the poets' sexualities is central to a fuller understanding of both the message and the medium of their poetic practices. A full-length exploration of the relationship between poetics and queer theory, Queer Poetics presents a theoretical framework that can illuminate not only the ways we read the specific poetic innovations of these six writers, but also the ways we read literary modernism itself, by placing both in a different social and epistemological context—that of queer existence. This work is important to scholars and researchers in Women's Studies, Gay and Lesbian Studies, feminist criticism, and the study of poetry.
