The 'Using Evidence for Impact' project aims to inspire all those working in the New Zealand social sector to use evidence in decision-making. This report provides background information on the origins and development of one initiative - the 'Evaluation Capacity Building Project'. The project involved developing and trialling an Evaluation Capacity Assessment Tool with three non-government organisations and supporting them to develop their Evaluation Capacity Building strategy, drawing on a brief literature scan and a series of workshops. Feedback on the value of the ECA Tool and process was obtained three months after the competion of the project.
