Ernst Specker has made decisive contributions towards shaping direc tions in topology, algebra, mathematical logic, combinatorics and algorith mic over the last 40 years. We have derived great pleasure from marking his seventieth birthday by editing the majority of his scientific publications, and thus making his work available in a unified form to the mathematical community. In order to convey an idea of the richness of his personality, we have also included one of his sermons. Of course, the publication of these Selecta can pay tribute only to the writings of Ernst Specker. It cannot adequately express his originality and wisdom as a person nor the fascination he exercises over his students, colleagues and friends. We can do no better than to quote from Hao Wang in the 'Festschrift' Logic and Algorithmic I: Specker was ill for an extended period before completing his formal education. He had the leisure to think over many things. This experi ence may have helped cultivating his superiority as a person. In terms of traditional Chinese categories, I would say there is a taoist trait in him in the sense of being more detached, less competitive, and more under standing. I believe he has a better sense of what is important in life and arranges his life better than most logicians. We are grateful to Birkhauser Verlag for the production of this Selecta volume. Our special thanks go to Jonas Meon for sharing with us his intimate knowledge of his friend Ernst Specker.

Handbook Of Quantum Logic And Quantum Structures written by Kurt Engesser and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-06-16 with Mathematics categories.
Quantum mechanics is said to be the most successful physical theory ever. It is, in fact, unique in its success when applied to concrete physical problems. On the other hand, however, it raises profound conceptual problems that are equally unprecedented. Quantum logic, the topic of this volume, can be described as an attempt to cast light on the puzzle of quantum mechanics from the point of view of logic. Since its inception in the famous 1936 paper by Birkhoff and von Neumann entitled, "The logic of quantum mechanics, quantum logic has undergone an enormous development. Various schools of thought and approaches have emerged, and there are a variety of technical results. The chapters of this volume constitute a comprehensive presentation of the main schools, approaches and results in the field of quantum logic. - Authored by eminent scholars in the field - Material presented is of recent origin representing the frontier of the subject - Provides the most comprehensive and varied discussion of Quantum Mechanics available

This book covers both theoretical and practical results for graph polynomials. Graph polynomials have been developed for measuring combinatorial graph invariants and for characterizing graphs. Various problems in pure and applied graph theory or discrete mathematics can be treated and solved efficiently by using graph polynomials. Graph polynomials have been proven useful areas such as discrete mathematics, engineering, information sciences, mathematical chemistry and related disciplines.

Randomness Through Computation Some Answers More Questions written by Hector Zenil and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-02-11 with Computers categories.
This review volume consists of a set of chapters written by leading scholars, most of them founders of their fields. It explores the connections of Randomness to other areas of scientific knowledge, especially its fruitful relationship to Computability and Complexity Theory, and also to areas such as Probability, Statistics, Information Theory, Biology, Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Learning Theory and Artificial Intelligence. The contributors cover these topics without neglecting important philosophical dimensions, sometimes going beyond the purely technical to formulate age old questions relating to matters such as determinism and free will. The scope of Randomness Through Computation is novel. Each contributor shares their personal views and anecdotes on the various reasons and motivations which led them to the study of Randomness. Using a question and answer format, they share their visions from their several distinctive vantage points.
