This publication seeks to support policymakers in promoting accessibility at a policy and practical level. It contains information on relevant global and regional mandates that support and promote disability-inclusive development and accessibility, with a view to demonstrate the multi-faceted value of focusing on disability and accessibility policies to achieve broader development goals. Readers will learn about the core concepts of disability and accessibility, and be empowered with knowledge on standards, tools and means of promoting accessibility. Furthermore, this publication will outline and analyse examples of good practices of accessibility identified in Asia and the Pacific. The majority of the good practices featured in this publication were initially discussed at two international and multi-stakeholder workshops that took place in 2014 and 2015, with a few additional examples drawn from Pacific island member States. The selection of practices for this publication is based on their embodiment of the principles of accessibility, demonstrated success, measurable impact on the community, and their adaptable and replicable nature.

Sustainable Social Development In Asia And The Pacific written by United Nations and has been published by UN this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Business & Economics categories.

The Asia-Pacific region's impressive economic growth and remarkable achievements in poverty reduction have not succeeded in closing gaps in income between the rich and poor, nor the unequal access to, for example, health care and education among other basic services. These gaps disproportionately affect women and the most vulnerable segments of society. They also hamper inclusive growth, undermine social cohesion and contribute to unsustainable production and consumption patterns. In short, these social development gaps undermine efforts to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.Sustainable Social Development in Asia and the Pacific summarizes the social development gaps as countries in the region take steps to achieve the SDGs, and sketches out a broad regional agenda for a people-centred transformation, outlining some of the key priorities and resources needed. The policy simulations reported here clearly indicate that acceleration of economic growth alone would not address the remaining development gaps. Changing the development paradigm to ensure more decent jobs, complemented by broadened coverage of social protection and universal education and health care is critical for eliminating extreme poverty from the region and achieving the other SDGs. Asia and the Pacific is already the most dynamic region in the world. By harnessing the potential of its people, the region can also be at the forefront of a global social transformation for a prosperous, inclusive and sustainable future for all.

The Survey 2014 examines the region's challenges to support its economic growth and to promote inclusive and sustainable development. Part I of the report focuses on the region's outlook as it contends with the ongoing global economic uncertainty and assesses the region's policy response to remaining and emerging vulnerabilities. It also examines the role of sustainable agriculture in closing the development gaps in least developed countries. A special theme is domestic resource mobilisation in the region, which explores the challenges on strengthening tax revenues. Part II of the report discusses strategic approaches to strengthen regional connectivity to achieve shared prosperity, particularly the ways in which various networks facilitate trade, production networks and investment flows within the region.

This publication provides updates on social protection indicators for 13 Pacific developing member countries of the Asian Development Bank. It presents an analysis of 2015 data on social protection programs, particularly the substantial progress in expenditure and benefit size between 2009 and 2015. Yet, spending favored the nonpoor over the poor, and the gap in spending on men and on women widened. The Social Protection Index--now the Social Protection Indicator--was developed by ADB and its partners as the first comprehensive and quantitative measure of social protection systems in Asia and the Pacific.
