This book provides a comprehensive description of the screening and clinical applications of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) and offers straightforward, clear guidance on use of the technique. Informative clinical cases are presented to illustrate how to take advantage of DBT in clinical practice. The importance of DBT as a diagnostic tool for both screening and diagnosis is increasing rapidly. DBT improves upon mammography by depicting breast tissue on a video clip made of cross‐sectional images reconstructed in correspondence with their mammographic planes of acquisition. DBT results in markedly reduced summation of overlapping breast tissue and offers the potential to improve mammographic breast cancer surveillance and diagnosis. This book will be an excellent practical teaching guide for beginners and a useful reference for more experienced radiologists.

Tomosynthesis is a technology that enables the acquisition of three-dimensional (3D) data from a sequence of projection images acquired at different x-ray tube angles. Tomosynthesis imaging is being actively investigated for use in a variety of clinical tasks. Chapter One of this book provides a comparison of reconstruction algorithms in terms of radiation dose reduction of x-ray tomosynthesis. Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT), an emerging and improving breast imaging technology, enhances the diagnosis of early breast cancer by providing in-depth information about the overlapping dense breast tissues with no ambiguities. Chapter Two reviews population-based screening/clinical trials of digital breast tomosynthesis. The last chapter discusses image reconstruction and imaging configuration optimization with a multi-beam parallel digital breast tomosynthesis system.

Digital Tomosynthesis For The Screening And Diagnosis Of Breast Cancer written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with categories.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. One in eight to 10 women are likely to develop breast cancer during their lifetime. due to the disease and breast cancer screening and diagnosis play an important role. Mammography has been used for routine breast cancer screening as well as for diagnostic purposes. Initially the screen-film mammography method was developed and was later followed by the digital mammography. Mammography is a two dimensional (2D) X-ray imaging technique. As this involves 2D projection, overlapping tissues and normal dense structures in the breast may hamper interpretation. Dense breast tissues may reduce or obscure conspicuity of abnormalities and could result in cancer being missed. Also overlapping dense tissue may give the impression of a lesion and could result in unnecessary workup or biopsy. Detection with a three dimensional (3D) technique may reduce the interference from overlapping tissues and dense tissues and may improve interpretations. The digital tomosynthesis method is a 3D imaging technique in which the X ray tube moves along a limited angle arc and a finite number of 2D projections are collected. From these 2D projections a 3D volume of the breast is reconstructed. This allows cross-sectional visualization of the breast tissues and reduces hindrance due to overlapping or superimposed tissues and has the potential to improve interpretation. Introduction of tomosynthesis may have resource implications and if used as an adjunct with mammography could entail additional cost, hence the extent of improvement if any with the use of tomosynthesis needs to be assessed. The purpose of this report is to provide evidence on the clinical effectiveness of tomosynthesis used alone or as an adjunct with mammography compared to mammography alone for screening and diagnosis of breast cancer.

Case studies provide a stellar resource for mastering clinical breast tomosynthesis technology Digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), popularly called "3D mammography" is a state-of-the-art breast imaging technology that provides the ability to view inside the breast, layer by layer. Advantages of DBT include elimination of superimposed tissue, improved detection of otherwise hidden lesions, and significantly higher cancer detection rates compared to conventional mammography. Although it is increasingly being implemented in imaging centers, hands-on clinical learning tools have been lacking - until now. Written by renowned breast imaging specialists, this multimedia textbook is the most definitive DBT reference available. The first section is dedicated to DBT fundamentals, including physics, reconstruction methods, acquisition parameters, and patient dose and data size considerations. The next two sections are case-based clinical practice presentations, organized by DBT screening and diagnostic components. Key Features The use of 3D breast imaging to detect and differentiate malignancies from normal and benign findings 100 case studies include pertinent clinical information, introductory images, and findings labeled on subsequent images with BI-RADS terminology Full field digital mammography and/or synthetic 2D mammogram images included in all case studies mirror what is typically encountered in DBT breast-imaging programs Clinical pearls on navigating the technology, interpreting images, making diagnoses, and decisions regarding follow-up studies Accompanying online videos further elucidate the still images This remarkable, interactive reference is a must-have for trainee and practicing radiologists and will also benefit mammography technicians. The detailed case studies and videos demonstrate the full utility of DBT as a screening and diagnostic technology in context with mammography, ultrasound, and MRI of the breast.
