This book is the product of a course that was developed to meet a horrifying requirement: introduce Aerospace Engineering a.k.a. Rocket Science to students who are fresh out of high school. Assume no background in Calculus, Graphics, Computing, or College Physics or Chemistry. Well, the Wright Brothers did not have A.E. degrees either, and they flew just fine, in a craft that still amazes designers. Several senior students taking Aircraft Design helped me with the standards that had to be met; a book received as birthday present told me the specifications of a new airliner. Advice at a party on Why First-Year Students Are Different, came in very handy indeed. On the first day, several senior colleagues populated the back row of the auditorium, purportedly to learn but possibly in anticipation of seeing me falling on my face. The students were told that they would be "flying" their own airliner designs inside 6 weeks. Whatever they thought of that, they just smiled. And did it. So can you. Hundreds of aerospace engineers have gone through the decades of course experience that now provide the backdrop of this book. The key is for the learner to have a certain amount of faith that there is a method to what looks like madness. It is undeniable that many students who come through the Introduction course, then and now, do better designs, and demonstrate more comfort in the basic disciplines, than what the Seniors could do in a prior era. Somewhere along the way students got tired of designing transonic airliners, and wanted to go straight into their own supersonic planes and spacecraft - and so they did. There is no magic here: just a simplified explanation of how requirements are laid out, a first "guess" is made, and how that that is used to successively reduce uncertainty about every part of the vehicle and its life-cycle. The rigorous analysis that comes in the various disciplines of aerospace engineering, is glimpsed but not allowed to drown the learner at this stage. If the book succeeds, perhaps it may inspire a designer who will make the next generation of supersonic airliners happen. Among many other dreams that await determined effort to realize them.

Introduction To Aeronautics written by Steven A. Brandt and has been published by AIAA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Aeronautics categories.
This text and the accompanying AeroDYNAMIC software are designed for use in teaching basic design methods in an introductory course on aeronautics. Brandt (aeronautics, US Air Force Academy) devotes the first chapter of the text to methods of engineering and aircraft design, then covers basic aeronautical engineering methods used in each step of the design process. Final chapters explain how all of the methods are used in the conceptual aircraft design process and present case studies of the development of three well-known aircraft designs. Previous courses in calculus, classical physics, and engineering mechanics are assumed. Annotation : 2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com).

Comprehensive textbook integrating the fundamentals of flight testing with introductory concepts in aerospace engineering Introduction to Aerospace Engineering with a Flight Test Perspective provides a solid foundation in the fundamentals of aerospace engineering while illuminating many aspects of real-world flight, covering topics such as aerodynamics, propulsion, performance, and stability and control. End-of-chapter problems are included along with a solutions manual for instructors. The Second Edition includes two new chapters, one providing a timely introduction to hypersonics and the other introducing the fundamentals of spaceflight. Introduction to Aerospace Engineering with a Flight Test Perspective discusses topics including: Historical perspectives of the first flights of airplanes, rotorcraft, and spacecraft Introductory concepts of airplanes, rotorcraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and lighter-than-air vehicles Placement of the reader in the aircraft cockpit to fly and learn the basics of flight test Fundamentals of subsonic, transonic, supersonic, and hypersonic flight, with explanations of the theories of lift and the generation of drag Types of non-airbreathing rocket propulsion, including liquid propellant rocket engines and solid rocket motors, as well as air-breathing propulsion, including propeller-driven and jet engines Concepts of aircraft performance in cruising, climbing, gliding, and turning flight Longitudinal and lateral-directional stability and control An introduction to hypersonic vehicles, aero-thermodynamics, and propulsion Orbital mechanics, covering Kepler’s laws, the two-body problem, types of trajectories and orbits, and atmospheric entry Introduction to Aerospace Engineering with a Flight Test Perspective is an excellent accompaniment to any introductory course in aerospace engineering taught at civilian universities, military academies, and test pilot schools. The text may also be used in more advanced courses in flight testing, aerodynamics, performance, and design.

Aircraft Design Concepts: An Introductory Course introduces the principles of aircraft design through a quantitative approach developed from the author’s extensive experience in teaching aircraft design. Building on prerequisite courses, the text develops basic design skills and methodologies, while also explaining the underlying physics. The book uses a historical approach to examine a wide range of aircraft types and their design. Numerous charts, photos, and illustrations are provided for in-depth view of aeronautical engineering. It addresses conventional tail-aft monoplanes, "flying-wing", biplane, and canard configurations. Providing detailed analysis of propeller performance, the book starts with simple blade-element theory and builds to the Weick method. Written for senior undergraduate and graduate students taking a single-semester course on Aircraft Design or Aircraft Performance, the book imparts both the technical knowledge and creativity needed for aircraft design.
