The main method and indicator of her influence are several branches of creation, such as books, television, film, theater, and the Internet. All of Austen’s achievements mean more today for two reasons. The first reason is ingratitude of the time she lived in, the difficult conditions, and the struggle and of course the worldview of the ages that made her to become what she is. The second reason for a greater meaning of her work today is the fact people have opened their eyes to exploration of literature, and her work began to be thoroughly reviewed and analyzed. By realizing the importance of her work and the endless possibilities that may come from that, people have started to use Jane Austen as a brand and promote her work, as well as adapt and modify it. On one hand, this can be seen as a wonderful thing for literature and the preservation of Jane Austen’s heritage, while on the other hand what can be seen is the black hole of profit that the industry has produced by turning Austen into a brand. This thesis focuses on the influence of the writer, because each individual must make a judgment on the harm that the industry makes to writer’s creations.

I report on a multi-method case study of the development of the Reference Model for an Open Archival Information System, a standard which describes components and services required to develop and maintain archives in order to support long-term access and understanding of the information in those archives. Development of the OAIS took place within the Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems, a standards development organization which formal represents space agencies, but the effort reached far beyond the traditional CCSDS interests and stakeholders, becoming a fundamental component of digital archive research and development in various disciplines and sectors. Through document analysis, social network analysis and qualitative analysis of interview data, I explain how and why the OAIS development effort was transformed into a standard of much wider scope, relevant to a diverse set of actors.

Digital Humanities can be loosely defined as the adoption of a variety of quantitative methodologies for humanities study. In the early nineties, scholarship for digital humanities formed under the umbrella of a variety of academic organizations devoted to what was then widely referred to as humanities computing. Such organizations brought together scholars from various fields interested in developing computational approaches for commonly established scholarships in the field of humanities. Humanities are currently witnessing a transition close to what occurred in the life sciences twenty years ago, with the processing and centralization of genomic data. The Digital Humanities discipline discusses the potential of these modern methodologies and, conversely, the academic traditions fostered by these emerging technologies. This book compiles state-of-the-art coverage on a wide range of areas of humanities in the digital age. The aim of this book is to explore the field labeled as 'digital humanities' to understand the meanings associated with it from the perspectives of humanities scholars in various disciplines. The identification and extraction of toponyms and spatial information mentioned in historical text collections have allowed its use in innovative ways, making possible the application of spatial analysis and the mapping of these places with geographic information systems. All too often, defining a discipline becomes more an exercise of exclusion than inclusion. Disrupting the Digital Humanities seeks to rethink how we map disciplinary terrain by directly confronting the gatekeeping impulse of many other so-called field-defining collections. What is most beautiful about the work of the Digital Humanities is exactly the fact that it can't be tidily anthologized. In fact, the desire to neatly define the Digital Humanities (to filter the DH-y from the DH) is a way of excluding the radically diverse work that actually constitutes the field. This collection, then, works to push and prod at the edges of the Digital Humanities -- to open the Digital Humanities rather than close it down. Ultimately, it's exactly the fringes, the outliers, that make the Digital Humanities both heterogeneous and rigorous. This collection does not constitute yet another reservoir for the new Digital Humanities canon. Rather, its aim is less about assembling content as it is about creating new conversations. Building a truly communal space for the digital humanities requires that we all approach that space with a commitment to: 1) creating open and non-hierarchical dialogues; 2) championing non-traditional work that might not otherwise be recognized through conventional scholarly channels; 3) amplifying marginalized voices; 4) advocating for students and learners; and 5) sharing generously and openly to support the work of our peers.
