Political commentator and public policy analyst Gilles Paquet examines the benefits and drawbacks of Canada's multiculturalism policy. Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2012 in the subject Cultural Studies - Miscellaneous, , language: English, abstract: Because the human mind gets caught in little niches, in the diversity of the numerous slots of a mighty cosmic computer, without its being aware of this interface and connectedness to the totality of life, which includes all cultural diversities in a gigantic all-encompassing unity of life, it is helpful to remember this interconnectedness to the whole with all its parts in order to integrate cultural diversity challenges. On the operating system level of the cosmic computer - whose operating system software can run all cultural programmers - to which cultural players can switch at will in the wink of an eye, as it is matter of consciousness, whose speed transcends that of light, all cultural programmes are accessible and manageable.

Examining the distinctions of diversity from within the fundraising profession or exploring strategies to enhance diversity in the nonprofit sector, this volume participates in the ongoing discussion on the opportunities and obligations for fundraising practitioners to incorporate culture and tradition in their practice. Chapters examine prospect research, cultivation, and solicitation practice; communication strategies in the workplace; the importance of diversity in philanthropic boards; inclusiveness in the mission and work of nonprofit organizations; and the evolution of current gay and lesbian issues as well as the cultural sensitizing that needs to occur in order to develop successful donor relationships. Acknowledging the challenge for increased quantifiable data on diversity and promoting continued dialogue, this book is a valuable addition to the literature in the fundraising field. This is the 34th issue of the Jossey-Bass series New Directions for Philanthropic Fundraising.

Seminar paper from the year 2003 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,0, Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg, course: English UNICERT IV, language: English, abstract: The paper “Globalization and Culture” deals with the question of whether it is possible for one system to embrace all cultures. Globalization is the development towards an integrated world system embracing all main schools of thought across all levels of society. The main proponents of this development are technological and institutional advancements. After looking at the main stepping stones in the historical development of globalization a definition of culture is given. Culture is seen as an agreement between people belonging to a group and concerns the meaning of certain actions. Cultures consists of attitudes, beliefs and values. Their elements differ between families, companies and nations. Although these differences exist, there is a tendency towards cultural homogenization caused by globalization. The paper discusses whether it is possible that one system could work for all. It outlines that deep cultural differences still exist. International organizations and national governments have made attempts to save local cultures showing how important it is to protect them. In conclusion it is stressed that it is more important to work on a global acceptance and awareness of other cultures than on creating a global village with a global culture.

Despite the familiar assertion that we live in a "global village," cross-cultural environmental and social conflicts are often marked by failures of communication due to deeply divergent assumptions about the scope of the moral and the constitution of moral personhood. Such conflicts include the globalization of trade versus the authority of traditional and indigenous peoples, the need to control population versus the recognition of women as active participants in framing social policy, and the need to preserve wild nature versus the ever increasing need for access to land and to safe food and water.
