This contributed volume focuses on the application of machine learning and cheminformatics in predictive modeling for organic materials, polymers, solvents, and energetic materials. It provides an in-depth look at how machine learning is utilized to predict key properties of polymers, deep eutectic solvents, and ionic liquids, as well as to improve safety and performance in the study of energetic and reactive materials. With chapters covering polymer informatics, quantitative structure–property relationship (QSPR) modeling, and computational approaches, the book serves as a comprehensive resource for researchers applying predictive modeling techniques to advance materials science and improve material safety and performance.

From earlier ecological studies it has become apparent that simple univariate or bivariate statistics are often inappropriate, and that multivariate statistical analyses must be applied. Despite several difficulties arising from the application of multivariate methods, community ecology has acquired a mathematical framework, with three consequences: it can develop as an exact science; it can be applied operationally as a computer-assisted science to the solution of environmental problems; and it can exchange information with other disciplines using the language of mathematics. This book comprises the invited lectures, as well as working group reports, on the NATO workshop held in Roscoff (France) to improve the applicability of this new method numerical ecology to specific ecological problems.

Contains 40 of the papers presented at the Third International Meeting of Statistics in the Basque Country, held in Bilbao, Spain in August 1986. Papers present recent, important developments in statistical theory, including new methodologies, and improved or novel theoretical tools which have removed past restrictions and vastly broadened potential applications--some have already had significant impact on modeling, design, and analysis of statistical experiments. Chapters cover a wide range of topics, including data analysis, sampling theory, growth curves analysis, both theoretical and applied aspects of time series analysis, nonparametric theory, the Edgeworth expansions in statistics and probability, the bootstrap and randomization methods, density estimation, hypotheses testing, pseudorandom numbers, and sequential estimation.

Over the centuries, civilization has seen considerable advances in healthcare. Cancer is among the most challenging healthcare issues that we face today, but a number of discoveries have led to better care. Despite all the progress and the promise regarding early detection and precision medicine, we are still faced with the nettlesome problem - cancer is a moving target. Even within an individual tumour, deep sequencing analyses now indicate multiple, phenotypically distinct subpopulations, whose representation seems to vary dramatically from one stage to the next as the tumour progresses. Cancer Systems Biology provides state-of-the-art reviews and thought-provoking ideas in a concise and succinct manner. This insightful textbook is a crosspollination of concepts from multiple disciplines and experimental approaches to study cancer. The chapters provide new ideas and thoughts outlining how a quantitative picture of cancer can provide a deeper understanding of the disease, and how a systems level perspective may hold the key to fully comprehend how cancer arises and progresses. Written by experts in multiple disciplines, including systems biologists, science researchers, physicists, mathematicians, and clinicians, Cancer Systems Biology provides a comprehensive, up-to-date, treatise devoted to understanding cancer from a systems perspective. Providing new conceptual insights that can aid precision medicine, it will be essential reading for academic researchers in the field, clinicians, graduate students, and scientists with an interest in cancer biology.

When dealing with the design or with the application of any technical system, which is not quite simple and trivial, one has to face to the problem to determine the allowable deƯ viations of the system functions and the optimal vector of system parameter tolerances. The need for the solution of this problem is stimulated with various serious economic and maiteƯ nance aspects, between them the tendency to reach the minimal production cost, the maximal system operation reliability are the most frequent. Suppose that we are dealing with an system S, consisting of N components represented by the system parameƯ ters xi' i = 1, 2 ... N, which are arranged in certain structuƯ re so, that the K, system functions F k' k = 1, 2 ... The set F depends besides the system structure also on the vector X = [Xi}N of the system parameters. Suppose, that the system structure is invariant.
