This volume contains the best papers presented at the 2nd ECCOMAS International Conference on Multiscale Computations for Solids and Fluids, held June 10-12, 2015. Topics dealt with include multiscale strategy for efficient development of scientific software for large-scale computations, coupled probability-nonlinear-mechanics problems and solution methods, and modern mathematical and computational setting for multi-phase flows and fluid-structure interaction. The papers consist of contributions by six experts who taught short courses prior to the conference, along with several selected articles from other participants dealing with complementary issues, covering both solid mechanics and applied mathematics.

Modeling In Engineering Using Innovative Numerical Methods For Solids And Fluids written by Laura De Lorenzis and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-02-08 with Science categories.

The book examines innovative numerical methods for computational solid and fluid mechanics that can be used to model complex problems in engineering. It also presents innovative and promising simulation methods, including the fundamentals of these methods, as well as advanced topics and complex applications. Further, the book explores how numerical simulations can significantly reduce the number of time-consuming and expensive experiments required, and can support engineering decisions by providing data that would be very difficult, if not impossible, to obtain experimentally. It also includes chapters covering topics such as particle methods addressing particle-based materials and numerical methods that are based on discrete element formulations; fictitious domain methods; phase field models; computational fluid dynamics based on modern finite volume schemes; hybridizable discontinuous Galerkin methods; and non-intrusive coupling methods for structural models.

Unified Lagrangian Formulation For Fluid And Solid Mechanics Fluid Structure Interaction And Coupled Thermal Problems Using The Pfem written by Alessandro Franci and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-04 with Science categories.

This book treats the derivation and implementation of a unified particle finite element formulation for the solution of fluid and solid mechanics, Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) and coupled thermal problems. FSI problems are involved in many engineering branches, from aeronautics to civil and biomedical engineering. The numerical method proposed in this book has been designed to deal with a large part of these. In particular, it is capable of simulating accurately free-surface fluids interacting with structures that may undergo large displacements, suffer from thermo-plastic deformations and even melt. The method accuracy has been successfully verified in several numerical examples. The thesis also contains the application of the proposed numerical strategy for the simulation of a real industrial problem. This thesis, defended at the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya in 2015, was selected (ex aequo) as the best PhD thesis in numerical methods in Spain for the year 2015 by the Spanish Society of Numerical Methods in Engineering (SEMNI).

Computational Mechanics: Continuous and Discrete Models for Solids, Fluids and Structures offers a unified presentation of continuum mechanical models and their discrete counterparts, giving a deeper understanding of the relationship that exists between the main numerical methods, finite element methods, and finite volume methods, also presenting the advantages and shortcomings of each. This book shows, with the use of MATLAB code snippets, how to implement the methods described for all types of different problems, including linear and nonlinear, stationary and time dependent, and solids and fluids, all presented for the typical common finite element, finite volume, and time stepping methods. Contains derivation of continuous models and discrete models in a unified, mixed engineering/mathematical manner Presents numerical methods and their implementation in MATLAB Explores finite element methods, discontinuous finite element methods, and finite volume methods within the same framework
