Forever In The Path written by Pero G Dagbovie and has been published by MSU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-02-01 with Education categories.

Forever in the Path: The Black Experience at Michigan State University offers a sweeping overview of the Black experience at America’s first agricultural college from the 1890s through the late twentieth century. In exploring the personalities, important events, and key turning points of Black life at the university, this book deftly blends intellectual history, social history, educational history, institutional history, and the African American biographical tradition. Pero G. Dagbovie depicts and imagines how his numerous subjects’ upbringings and experiences at the institution informed their futures, and how they benefitted from and contributed to MSU’s vision, mission, and transformative role in the history of higher education. Michigan State University—founded in 1855 as the Agricultural College of the State of Michigan—has a fascinating past, a history shaped by vacillating local and national contexts as well as by people from different walks of life. The first Black students arrived on campus during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and the first full-time Black faculty member was hired in the late 1940s. Before and after the modern Civil Rights Movement, African Americans from various backgrounds were transformed by MSU while also profoundly contributing in vital ways to the institution’s growth and evolving identity.

This book is a collection of reflective and celebratory poems based on phrases received from diverse graduating students for annual ethnic precommencement programs. From the selective works of several scholars, a young writer, and one who did not even participate in the programs, it gives insight into the thinking, feelings, beliefs, joys, values, and vision of contemporary students. It reflects how the next generation, the architects of tomorrow, envisioned their past and see their present and future roles as majority people. Individually and collectively, the book gives voice to an often-unheard silent youth. It evokes thoughts about the importance of involving diverse students in their education and todays matters. It serves as an instrument for reimagining a new generation of queens and kings to come. The destiny they foresee combined with rethinking a greater urgency and a renewed look at people of color is precursory, hopeful, and preparatory.

This is a story of an African American woman working at the highest levels in STEM. Dr. Sandra K. Johnson earned a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from Rice University, Houston, Texas, in May 1988, the first Black woman to do so. She then became a successful global technology leader and an IBM Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The story narrates the inextricable human dimension of dealing with various personal and familial challenges that people naturally encounter—with the highs and lows, and exhilarations and disappointments. It portrays her inner strength, persistence, dedication, boldness, quiet resilience, wisdom and strong faith, this soft power she leverages throughout her life. It is a heartwarming, compelling story designed to encourage, be aspirational and awe-inspiring, and uplift the spirits of a broad and diverse readership. From tragically losing her father at the age of two, to being raised by a single mother of four children, Sandra showed promise in math and science, and discipline and unrelenting drive at a young age. Raised in the deep South, she exhibited leadership even while in kindergarten and blazed trails in leadership while in junior high and high schools. Her early education was in segregated schools, with integration coming to her hometown as she started the 5th grade. Dr. Johnson’s innate abilities led her to a summer engineering program for high school students, then on to college and graduate school. Dr. Johnson has made innovative contributions in high performance computing – supercomputers – and other areas of computer engineering. She has dozens of technical publications, over 45 pending and issued patents, and a plethora of recognition and honors in her field. The book is a fascinating and intriguing story that conveys in captivating and relatable ways the remarkable life arc of a resilient person from an underprivileged background who persistently overcomes whatever odds and challenges are encountered in her life. It is a riveting human tale of a triumphant spirit, moving forward with soft power to celebrate achievement and handle obstacles with steel willpower, influential support, and faith. This book addresses the forced removal and confinement of Japanese Americans during World War II—a topic significant to all Americans, regardless of race or color. The internment of Japanese Americans was a violation of the Constitution and its guarantee of equal protection under the law—yet it was authorized by a presidential order, given substance by an act of Congress, and affirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court. Japanese internment is a topic that we as Americans cannot afford to forget or be ignorant of. This work spotlights an important subject that is often only described in a cursory fashion in general textbooks. It provides a comprehensive, accessible treatment of the events of Japanese American internment that includes topical, event, and biographical entries; a chronology and comprehensive bibliography; and primary documents that help bring the event to life for readers and promote inquiry and critical thinking.
