Icelandic society has seen considerable demographic changes during the last decade with growing numbers of immigrant families settling in the country. This has created a challenge to the Icelandic educational system, demanding improvement to meet the ethnic diversity of students at all school levels. This book presents a study of ten immigrant families, with particular emphasis on the children and their schooling during their first years in Iceland. The main significance of the study is its close analysis of individual experiences during the processes of immigration and adjustment to a new society and school community. The main conclusions of the study reveal insufficient school conditions of many of the immigrant children and discontinuities between some of the homes and schools. A reform agenda is needed at all school levels in Iceland to respond to the new multicultural reality and to prevent the segregation of immigrant children. The book should be useful to researchers within the fields of education, sociology, anthropology and multicultural studies as well as practitioners, such as teachers, school leaders and policy makers.

Takes in turn the three dimensions of Leibniz's metaphysics with the goal of providing a unified treatment of them. Argues that his notion of indirect representation, though largely ignored by scholars, is crucial for understanding the metaphysics of the continuous and the spatio-temporal. Also throws light on the interconnections between his realms of the real, the phenomenal, and the ideal. Among specific topics are perception, density and sequential or Cauchy completeness, and the formalization of the third model as it refers to the density of monadic and phenomenal change. Welcome to the proceedings of the 2010 International Conferences on Security Te- nology (SecTech 2010), and Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity (DRBC 2010) – two of the partnering events of the Second International Mega-Conference on Future Generation Information Technology (FGIT 2010). SecTech and DRBC bring together researchers from academia and industry as well as practitioners to share ideas, problems and solutions relating to the multifaceted aspects of security and disaster recovery methodologies, including their links to c- putational sciences, mathematics and information technology. In total, 1,630 papers were submitted to FGIT 2010 from 30 countries, which - cludes 250 papers submitted to SecTech/DRBC 2010. The submitted papers went through a rigorous reviewing process: 395 of the 1,630 papers were accepted for FGIT 2010, while 57 papers were accepted for SecTech/DRBC 2010. Of the 250 papers 10 were selected for the special FGIT 2010 volume published by Springer in the LNCS series. 34 papers are published in this volume, and 13 papers were wi- drawn due to technical reasons. We would like to acknowledge the great effort of the SecTech/DRBC 2010 Int- national Advisory Boards and members of the International Program Committees, as well as all the organizations and individuals who supported the idea of publishing this volume of proceedings, including SERSC and Springer. Also, the success of these two conferences would not have been possible without the huge support from our sponsors and the work of the Chairs and Organizing Committee.

The book aims to present current knowledge concerning the propagation of electro magnetic waves in a homogeneous magnetoplasma for which temperature effects are unimportant. It places roughly equal emphasis on the radio and the . hydromagnetic parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. The dispersion properties of a magnetoplasma are treated as a function both of wave frequency (assumed real) and of ionization density. However, there is little discussion of propagation in a stratified medium, for of collisions is included only which reference may be made to Budden [1] . The effect in so far as this can be done with simplicity. The book describes how pulses are radiated from both small and large antennas embedded in a homogeneous magneto plasma. The power density radiated from a type of dipole antenna is studied as a function of direction of radiation in all bands of wave frequency. Input reactance is not treated, but the dependence of radiation resistance on wave frequency is described for the entire electromagnetic spectrum. Also described is the relation between beaming and guidance for Alfven waves.

- How can the colours of a map reinforce our biases? - What does a postcolonial map of the world look like? - How do indigenous communities use maps to argue for self-determination? A stunning, thought-provoking exploration of how maps shape our understanding of the world - featuring over 150 beautiful full-colour maps. 'This striking study . . . lavishly illustrated . . . stuns' - Publishers Weekly ‘A true genius of cartography . . . Radical Cartography will make you see maps, and, indeed, your place on the planet, with fresh eyes’ – Daniel Immerwahr, author of How to Hide an Empire Maps are everywhere. They can change how cities are designed and how rivers flow, how wars are fought and how land claims are settled, how children learn about race and how colonialism becomes a habit of mind. Maps don’t just show us information – they help construct our world. Cartographer and historian William Rankin argues that it’s time to reimagine what a map can be and how it can be used. Maps are not neutral. They are innately political, defining how the world is divided, what becomes visible and what stays hidden, and whose voices are heard. Brimming with vibrant, radical maps created by Rankin and by other cutting-edge mapmakers, Radical Cartography challenges the map as a tool of the status quo. Changing our maps can change the questions we ask, the answers we accept – and the planet we build.
