Invitation To Research In Practical Theology written by Zoë Bennett and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-20 with Religion categories.

Practical theology as a subject area has grown and become more sophisticated in its methods and self-understanding over the last few decades. This book provides a complete and original research primer in the major theories, approaches and methods at the cutting-edge of research in contemporary practical theology. It represents a reflection on the very practice of the discipline itself, its foundational questions and epistemological claims. Each chapter examines different aspects of the research process: starting with experience and practice, aspects of research design and epistemology, communities of learning, the influence of theological norms and tradition on the practice of research, and ethical considerations about what constitutes ‘the good’ in advanced research. The uniqueness of this book rests in its authoritative overview of current practical theological research across a range of traditions and approaches, combined with a comprehensive introduction to research methodology. It offers worked examples from the authors, their colleagues and research students that serve to illustrate key ideas and approaches in practical theological research. The four authors are all internationally-leading scholars and rank amongst the most influential figures in practical theology of their generation. The book promises to be of interest to students, teachers and researchers in practical theology, especially those looking to conduct original practice-based enquiry in the field.

Built For Change written by Rev. Steve Taylor and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-05-13 with Christian leadership categories.

This book offers a practical theology of innovation. It provides rich insights mixed with stories of change in establishing young adult formation, nurturing reconciliation, planting community gardens and rural cafes. Built for Change demonstrates that collaborative change is both practical and possible. Innovation is not the mysterious pursuit of what is new and hip by a heroic leader. Rather, innovation grows out of a set of collaborative, practical actions shaped by the Biblical story and Christian traditions of innovation. Innovation requires six strengths: being a servant, gardener, builder, resource manager, fool and parent. This makes innovation a team project, emerging as each discerns their strengths, defines their limits and grows as a differently gifted group. Innovation, therefore offers an invitation to spiritual practices that are deep and wide, inward and outward. It emerges from our followership of Jesus the innovator.

Sean O'Riordan (1916-1998) was among the most gifted theologians of his generation. His particular theological style was the development of a scientifically based discourse with a pastoral purpose. It is this pastoral thrust that distinguishes him as a theologian: the desire to see how theology is at the service of all that is concrete, dynamic and historical in the life of the Church. This unique book gathers together, for the first time, some of Sean O'Riordan's more significant essays over a thirty-year period.

Building The Whole Church written by Jessy Jaison and has been published by Langham Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-08-04 with Religion categories.

As the church grows ever larger in areas once considered impervious to the gospel, theological training is failing to keep up with the needs of local congregations. This lack of missional capacity, alongside an overwhelming shortage of trained leadership, indicates a pressing need to revisit the aims and approaches of theological education globally. Engaging qualitative research from South Asia, Dr. Jessy Jaison demonstrates that both formal and non-formal approaches to theological training can support the church’s missional calling. However, she challenges the growing normalization that theological education is an end in itself, distant from those it was meant to serve. Dr. Jaison calls for a church-centered paradigm in which all forms of training would collaborate with and for the body of Christ. Not only will readers be introduced to theological education in the the South Asian context, they will also benefit from the practical and collaborative model demonstrated and how they can revitalize the process in supporting the church in its mission.

Feminist And Womanist Pastoral Theology written by Bonnie J. Miller-McLemore and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Religion categories.

In the last decade, the focus of pastoral theology has shifted dramatically from care defined as counseling to care understood within a wider social, political, and religious context. Feminist and womanist theory as well as feminist and womanist faith convictions have played a key role in this development. According to the authors, feminists and womanists in pastoral theology have begun to reconstruct the definitions, parameters, and commitments of pastoral care and counseling. These changes have critical implications for care within congregations and for the understanding of theology in seminaries and divinity schools. Yet these developments in the theory and practice of pastoral theology and their broader ramifications have not been carefully analyzed or even acknowledged by pastoral theologian, minister, and religion scholar alike. This is due to a failure to articulate clear understandings of the field, the gap between congregational ministry and higher education in religion, and conflicts in theological education in general over the place of practice and theory, experience, spirituality, and practical theology. To redress these problems, this collection of essays has a threefold aim. First, the book identifies the many changes occurring in definitions of pastoral theology, care, and counseling. Second, the volume defines and develops new methods and approaches. Third, the authors attend to the implications of these changes for congregational care and theological education. Roughly speaking, the order of the chapters in this volume follows this threefold agenda, moving from an exploration of the changes in pastoral theology to its reconstruction to some of the implications of recent innovations

This book argues for the productive and problematic nature of sharing lived experiences as a political and theological practice, drawing on a case study with anti-poverty activists in the UK to argue for a critical, creative, and collaborative approach to engaging with marginalised experiences in practical theology.
