The third volume is centered on issues of power and politics at the nexus of Africa's domestic affairs and its international concepts about the disequilibrium of power in the international system and the problems that Africa has confronted globally because of it. Mazrui focuses the reader's attention on the impact that the colonial legacy and African tradition had on state formation, leadership, Africa's political economy, violence and conflict resolution while presenting some of his most interesting and even controversial ideas for building "Pax Africana." Spanning nearly forty years, Mazrui's essays are classic and contemporary statements on the diagnosis and treatment of what he called "The African Condition."

Contemporary Issues In Africa S Development written by Ehimika A. Ifidon and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-04-18 with Social Science categories.
This volume reports on the state of crisis in Africa in the early twenty-first century. Africa, on the eve of the ‘independence revolution’, was the continent of hope and high expectations. By the third decade of independence, optimism had been replaced by dismality. African states had been beset by ethno-political squabbles, military rule, civil wars, Islamic and insurgent movements, extreme poverty and disease. With the ascent of redemocratization in the 1990s and of ‘new’ pan-Africanism derived from the formation of the African Union, Africa appeared set to claim its vaunted destiny. This book asks, with hindsight to the first decade of the twenty-first century: how real was the renaissance in African life? If the dismal African condition is a phase in the historical development of Africa, this volume does not see any golden age in the past to which Africa aspires to return. There is clearly a continuation and persistence of crisis, with an absence of good governance, personalisation of state power, widespread disease, and policy failure in education, economy and infrastructural development. Although endowed with abundant human and natural resources, Africa remains the least developed and most indebted continent. Whither then the African Renaissance? The methodologies that underpin the contributions in this book are as diverse as the specialisations of the contributors. The collection questions ideologically protected assumptions and presumptions, presenting Africa as it is, because it is only by knowing where Africa truly stands that a proper direction can be charted for it.

We Will Tell Our Own Story: The Lions of Africa Speak brings together distinguished African and Africa-centered scholars to articulate an uncompromising vision of African knowledge production grounded in cultural authority, intellectual sovereignty, and disciplinary excellence. Across thirteen chapters, contributors examine how African epistemologies reshape political science, education, psychology, media studies, philosophy, and cultural analysis. Rather than responding to external frameworks, the volume advances African-centered theories that emerge from lived histories, indigenous knowledge systems, and continental realities. The book intervenes directly in longstanding academic imbalances by demonstrating that Africa is not a peripheral site of interpretation but a foundational source of theory, method, and insight. Contributors interrogate how knowledge has been structured, circulated, and legitimized globally—and how African scholars reclaim authorship over meaning, methodology, and narrative direction. Designed for advanced students, faculty, and researchers, We Will Tell Our Own Story functions as both a core text and a methodological guide. It equips readers with frameworks that expand disciplinary boundaries while modeling rigorous, culturally grounded scholarship. This volume affirms Universal Write Publications’ commitment to advancing Black and African intellectual leadership within the global academy.

Economic Growth And Development In Africa written by Horman Chitonge and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-01-09 with Business & Economics categories.
In recent years, Africa has undergone the longest period of sustained economic growth in the continent’s history, drawing the attention of the international media and academics alike. This book analyses the Africa Rising narrative from multidisciplinary perspectives, offering a critical assessment of the explanations given for the poor economic growth and development performance in Africa prior to the millennium and the dramatic shift towards the new Africa. Bringing in perspectives from African intellectuals and scholars, many of whom have previously been overlooked in this debate, the book examines the construction of Africa’s economic growth and development portraits over the years. It looks at two institutions that play a vital role in African development, providing a detailed explanation of how the World Bank and the IMF have interpreted and dealt with the African challenges and experiences. The insightful analysis reveals that if Africa is rising, only 20-30 per cent of Africans are aboard the rising ship, and the main challenge facing the continent today is to bring on board the majority of Africans who have been excluded from growth. This book makes the complex, and sometimes confusing debates on Africa’s economic growth experience more accessible to a wide range of readers interested in the Africa story. It is essential reading for students and researchers in African Studies, and will be of great interest to scholars in Development Studies, Political Economy, and Development Economics.
