Who Framed Roger Rabbit emerged at a nexus of people, technology, and circumstances that is historically, culturally, and aesthetically momentous. By the 1980s, animation seemed a dying art. Not even the Walt Disney Company, which had already won over thirty Academy Awards, could stop what appeared to be the end of an animation era. To revitalize popular interest in animation, Disney needed to reach outside its own studio and create the distinctive film that helped usher in a Disney Renaissance. That film, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, though expensive and controversial, debuted in theaters to huge success at the box office in 1988. Unique in its conceit of cartoons living in the real world, Who Framed Roger Rabbit magically blended live action and animation, carrying with it a humor that still resonates with audiences. Upon the film’s release, Disney’s marketing program led the audience to believe that Who Framed Roger Rabbit was made solely by director Bob Zemeckis, director of animation Dick Williams, and the visual effects company Industrial Light & Magic, though many Disney animators contributed to the project. Author Ross Anderson interviewed over 140 artists to tell the story of how they created something truly magical. Anderson describes the ways in which the Roger Rabbit characters have been used in film shorts, commercials, and merchandising, and how they have remained a cultural touchstone today.

A two-volume, 800-page, deluxe slipcased celebration of Academy Award–winning artist and designer Doug Chiang, LucasFilm’s senior vice president and executive design director One of the most influential figures in crafting the visual language of Star Wars, Doug Chiang first joined forces with Lucasfilm for Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and has supervised or contributed to the visuals for Attack of the Clones, The Force Awakens, Galaxy’s Edge, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Last Jedi, Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Rise of Skywalker, and the Disney+ Star Wars television series The Mandalorian. Chiang’s impact on Star Wars, documented in full in the Star Wars Legacy volume of this monumental monograph, cannot be overstated. From the Naboo N-1 Starfighter to the iconic podracers and innumerable ships, droids, and creatures in between, no one person has had a greater hand in guiding the look and feel of Star Wars since Ralph McQuarrie. The companion volume in this set, The Cinematic Legacy, is dedicated to Chiang’s work prior to his arrival at Lucasfilm and showcases his early work, from student films and commercial work to working at Industrial Light & Magic and creating designs for Back to the Future Part II, Alien 3, T2: Judgment Day, Death Becomes Her, Spawn, The Mask, and Jumanji, among others. Chiang also spent time at Image Movers Digital, where he pushed the boundaries of visual effects with contributions to The Polar Express, Beowulf, and War of the Worlds. Chiang’s incredible imagination also expands into his personal work with Robota, a passion project of massive scale whose wide array of creatures, droids, ships, and far-off planets serve as the culmination of his influences and interests. In a career spanning five decades, Chiang has closely collaborated with legendary directors including George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Robert Zemeckis, James Cameron, and the Wachowskis, all of which are celebrated in this deluxe two-volume package.

Media Technologies And Posthuman Intimacy written by Jan Stasienko and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-16 with Social Science categories.
Constructing a theory of intimacy describing processes occurring between a 'human' subject and information creations, Jan Stasienko shows in what way and in what phases that relationship is built and what its nature is. He discusses technologies and genres related to the construction of a new television message (teleprompter, interactive television forms appearing both in the analogue and digital eras), composition of the film image and specificity of cinematic technologies (peep show, hybrid animation, digital visual effects). Also new-media technologies and genres will be discussed (for example, aspects relating to computer games and Web portals making video materials available). This diversity is prompted by the desire to show that the building of intimacy protocols is not the domain of the digital era, and on the other hand, that the posthumanism of media apparatus is a wide-ranging problem, i.e. the area encompasses various vehicles findable throughout various historical periods.

Many science fiction movies from the last 40 years have blazed new vistas for viewers. They've reached further into the future, traveled longer into the past, soared deeper into the vastness of the cosmos, and probed more intently inside man's consciousness than any other period of film before. And audiences ate them up, taking four of the top ten spots in all-time ticket sales in America while earning more than $2 billion at the box office. Modern Sci-Fi Films FAQ takes a look at the genre's movies from the last 40 years, where the dreams of yesterday and today may become tomorrow's realities. This FAQ travels to a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away... visits a theme park where DNA-created dinosaurs roam... watches as aliens come to Earth, hunting humans for sport... and much, much more. Filled with biographies, synopses, production stories, and images and illustrations – many seldom seen in print – the book focuses on films that give audiences two hours where they can forget about their troubles, sit back, crunch some popcorn, and visit worlds never before seen... worlds of robots, time travel, aliens, space exploration, and other far-out ideas.

This book explores the history of Disney's biggest live-action movie failures from the late 1970s to the late 2010s. That stretch of time was a transformative period in which the company made many financial gains but gradually lost its identity, which had largely been synonymous with founder Walt Disney. The chapters explain why each movie was made, the casting process, production details, and why each movie failed financially. Covered here are cult classics like Tron and Hocus Pocus alongside more well-known bombs like John Carter and The Lone Ranger.
