Professor Weeks proposes that the key to Marx's critique of capitalist society is the labor theory of value. A commodity-producing society, he argues, necessarily gives rise to a capitalist society, so that commodity production and the exploitation of labor are inseparably linked. In 2008 the capitalist world was swept by the severest crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s. Mainstream economics neither anticipated nor could account for this disastrous financial crisis, which required massive state intervention throughout the capitalist world. Karl Marx did anticipate this type of financial collapse, arguing that it was derivative from the ‘fetishism of commodities’ inherent in the capitalist mode of production. This book substantiates the foregoing claim by a journey from Marx’s analysis of commodities to the capitalist crisis of the twenty-first century. The book demonstrates that Marx's framework (1) demonstrates that capitalism is but one historical form of class society among many; (2) explains the transition from pre-capitalist to capitalist society; (3) reveals the concrete operation of a capitalist economy; and (4) shows why others would explain the capitalist economy in alternative theoretical frameworks. The central element in his framework from which all else derives is ‘the theory of value’. This book is not an exercise in the history of thought. It is an attempt to analyze the nature of contemporary capitalist society. While Marx’s analysis of capitalism has implications for political action, these need not lead one to embrace revolution in place of reform, though it can and has provided the analytical foundation for both. Marx’s analysis of capitalism is a coherent whole, and meaningful insights cannot be obtained by extracting elements from it. Weeks starts out by looking at the nature of capitalism and an analysis circulation, money and credit unfold from the theory of value. The nature and inherent necessity of competition are demonstrated in chapter eight. A consequence of competition, expressed in the movement of capital, is technical change, the contradictory impact of which is explained in chapter nine. This is brought together with the other elements of value theory (money, credit and competition) in chapter ten, where economic crises are treated in detail. The final chapter applies the theory of crisis to the extreme financial disturbances of the 2000s. This book should be of interest to students and researchers of economics, politics and sociology.

Karl Marx explained the production in his book the capital volume I. He used in his book some economy elements as the value J or figure out the sales and prices in a capitalist society that he called speculative. This book ends in the exploitation, which he continues to analyze in his book with another legal aspect of the capitalist society, and he takes as example for it the England society, where the capitalism had began. Concerning to the value theory seems to me the I. He applies in some way the Ricardian value economy theory. This book analyzes the capital volume I until the term exploitation of labor by the capital and ignores the legal aspects in relation of the labor worker conduction that Marx tried in the final chapters of his book. The capital volume Ithe productionas a labor exploitation by capital in the slave work and the worker that has been working more than fifteen hours a day have been causing a society health problem. Then the legal aspects began the attention in those labor conditions cases until they become the legal reform.

Confronting Capitalism In The 21st Century written by Marc Silver and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-23 with Political Science categories.
This book analyzes key aspects of Marx’s Capital with an eye towards its relevance for an understanding of issues confronting us in the 21st Century. The contributions to this volume suggest that while aspects of Marx’s original analysis must be adjusted to take into account changes that have occurred since its initial publication in 1867, his overall perspective remains necessary for understanding the nature of crises in 21st century. Part I emphasizes the central concepts Marx employed in Capital, including exploitation, capital accumulation, commodity fetishism, and his use of dialectics as a method for baring the underlying relations that define capitalism. Parts II and III extend that focus by addressing the concept of value, fictitious capital, credit and financialization. Parts IV and V offer analyses of several concrete manifestations of contemporary crises from national contexts (Europe, Latin America, China, and the United States). The volume argues that we have to combat the imperatives of capitalism to move towards a more humane and egalitarian future.

Karl Marx's seminal work, "Capital (Das Kapital)," delves into the intricacies of capitalist society through a rigorous analysis of economic systems, labor, and commodities. With a blend of philosophical discourse and economic theory, Marx employs a dialectical method that challenges contemporary capitalist ideologies. His exploration of concepts such as surplus value, alienation, and class struggle reveals the inherent contradictions within capitalism, making it a foundational text in both economics and political theory, notably influencing subsequent schools of thought, including socialism and critical theory. Marx, born in Prussia in 1818, was profoundly shaped by the socio-economic turbulence of his time, which included the Industrial Revolution and the rise of bourgeois capitalism. An ardent philosopher and economist, Marx spent much of his life analyzing the relationship between labor and capital. His long-standing collaboration with Friedrich Engels, as well as his immersion in contemporary social and political movements, fueled his desire to articulate the struggles of the working class, culminating in this masterwork. "Capital" is more than a profound treatise on economics; it is a clarion call to assess the socio-political structures that govern our lives. Readers interested in understanding the roots of modern capitalism, as well as its critiques, will find this book indispensable. Marx's insights continue to resonate, prompting essential discussions about equity, labor rights, and the future of economic systems.
