Salah satu batik pesisiran yang berkembang di sekitar pantai utara Pulau Jawa adalah Batik Dermayon. Batik Dermayon ini dikembangkan oleh perempuan pesisiran Indramayu. Motif batik ini berkembang dari waktu ke waktu karena ada perkembangan budaya yang berpengaruh terhadap pengembangan estetik dan teknik. Saat ini ada sekitar 143 motif batik yang dikenal dengan Batik Dermayon. Pengaruh Demak, Lasem, dan Jepara terhadap Batik Dermayon tampak pada beberapa motif yang mirip dengan motif pesisiran Jawa Tengah. Hal ini diperkuat oleh keterangan salah seorang pekriya, yang menyatakan bahwa di Indramayu terdapat keturunan etnis Jawa Tengah. Bagaimana peranan perempuan Indramayu dalam membangkitkan Batik Dermayon? Dari mana asal muasal budaya pesisiran Indramayu?
