Polygyny written by Curtis Rogers and has been published by Xlibris Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-29 with History categories.

This book is not an advocacy for the practice of polygany. What it is advocating is the correct historical perspective of polygany and the reason for its development in ancient African societies, a view that has been historically distorted because of cultural biases and ignorance. Going through school and learning about the subject of history is, to many, the memorization of events and dates without any real understanding of historical events. Although we may know history, we have no understanding about it. For the most part, we don’t understand history because of fragmentations caused by distortion and straight-out lies passed on as truth—fragmentation due to the evolution of an idea evolving from one thing to another until the original idea or meaning is lost, fragmentation caused from the destruction of civilizations along with the loss of the meanings of the languages and customs and therefore its history, and fragmentations or distortions intentionally or unintentionally caused by an outsider when one looks through their own cultural lens in interpreting a culture that is not their own. However fragmented a piece of history may be, once those fragmentations are put back together as in a jigsaw puzzle, only then will we be able to see the whole picture and have understanding.

This volume of the series “Translation and Multilingual Natural Language Processing” includes most of the papers presented at the Workshop “Language Technology for a Multilingual Europe”, held at the University of Hamburg on September 27, 2011 in the framework of the conference GSCL 2011 with the topic “Multilingual Resources and Multilingual Applications”, along with several additional contributions. In addition to an overview article on Machine Translation and two contributions on the European initiatives META-NET and Multilingual Web, the volume includes six full research articles. Our intention with this workshop was to bring together various groups concerned with the umbrella topics of multilingualism and language technology, especially multilingual technologies. This encompassed, on the one hand, representatives from research and development in the field of language technologies, and, on the other hand, users from diverse areas such as, among others, industry, administration and funding agencies. The Workshop “Language Technology for a Multilingual Europe” was co-organised by the two GSCL working groups “Text Technology” and “Machine Translation” (http://gscl.info) as well as by META-NET (http://www.meta-net.eu).

Language ability is a unique human trait, and it is indispensable throughout the human life cycle. Blockchain on the other hand, is an innovation that will transform production relationships, change collaboration models and distribution of benefits between people. Language and blockchain seem to have no intersection, yet they are bewilderingly similar in certain ways. When Language Meets Blockchain leads us into an exploratory journey to discover the possibilities of integrating blockchain technology with the language services industry. The author discusses how blockchain technology enables translators to realise their full potential and describes how the role of language can be elevated from a general tool to a driving force through a new concept called Cross-Linguistic Capability. This is a concept that will have very intriguing and beneficial implications for global economic activities. It is demonstrated that language is more than just a tool, it is also a resource and a form of capability. This presents opportunities for cross-linguistic and cross-cultural communications in the era of blockchain, to enable the convergence of linguistic capability with blockchain technology and artificial intelligence. The book's perspective on how the language services industry could adapt to times to embrace blockchain technology for industrial transformation, is both forwarding-looking and value enhancing.

The action plan you need to ensure everyone’s understood—digitally and across generations According to social scientist and award-winning CEO Dr. Mary Donohue, we communicate ineffectively at work a staggering 80% of the time! From the tone of an email to the almost-but-not-quite eye contact of a video conference app, today’s tech has increased the speed and scope of our communications—as well as the opportunities to misunderstand each other completely. This lack of effective communication is a leading cause of workplace stress. In this widely anticipated and deeply researched book, Dr. Donohue, a victim of workplace stress herself, lays out a seven-step solution to give you the tools you need to make communication a cure for workplace stress, not a cause—even (especially) when you’re working with a generationally diverse team. Discover what’s at the root of the problem—from misunderstood emails and misinterpreted texts to misconstrued social media posts and missed social cues on Zoom—and learn how to respond to different communication preferences now. Through helpful charts, case studies, evidence-backed research, and more, you’ll walk away with the tools you need to ensure everyone on your team—yourself included—is heard and understood, so there’s less time clarifying and more time for everyone to be their best, most productive selves.
