DeWitt is the pseudonym of a social scientist who began studying American farm families in the middle 1950s, and constructed interlocking theories to explain the apparent contradictions he found. He resumed the project in 1975, collected more data from 1979, and reports his work here. He uses theories of social action and social change, adapted from modified functionalist and symbolic interactions perspectives, to identify types of role sharing by husbands and wives and the changing phases of role sharing. The young farm families he first studied were adapting to the changing requirements and challenges of labor-intensive family farming after World War II. Beyond Equilibrium Theory is a fundamentally new interpretation of social reality that introduces theories of social formation and transformation, for micro- and macro-analysis of action systems and social movements. Equilibrium and conflict are viewed as societal variants rather than as ideal or natural states. Classical theorists are placed within a common theoretical framework, in an analysis of social order and social change as separate continua. Multiple path models trace changing patterns of partnering and power sharing. Hypotheses are tested with field-collected survey data, regression analysis of higher-order interactions, and comparisons of means adjusted for other effects. Researchers are provided with detailed methods of integrating theory and research, including nonlinear models and new logics of causality.

Keynes Coordination And Beyond written by Harry Garretsen and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

This book argues that the coordination problem lies at the heart of Keynes's economics. It shows how Keynes's message got lost in the post-War period and develops a more fruitful extension of Keynes's ideas within a general equilibrium framework and alternative frameworks such as post Keynesian and Austrian economics. It is demonstrated that in the absence of a coordinating device like the Walrasian auctioneer or in the presence of uncertainty, coordination can no longer be superimposed. This ultimately implies that apart from some notable exceptions, the Keynesian revolution was in fact stifled at birth because the validity of the central concepts of microeconomics have never been challenged. This lively and fascinating book is likely to provoke debate amongst economists and policymakers. Its conclusions place a question mark over the development of economic theory since the Second World War.

Japanese scholars of economics present nine contributions addressing the development of economic thought and modernization in Japan, primarily over the last 150 years. The contributions begin with discussion of several currents of economic thought during the Tokugawa period, which represented the intellectual prerequisites of modern economic growth in Japan. Developments in the Meiji era, the interwar period, and economic thought after 1945 are then explored, followed by Marxian and non-Marxian approaches to economic development and the political economy, and an essay on the considerable influence of Adam Smith on Japanese economics during and after WWII.
