Beyond Benefit Cost Analysis written by Domenico Patassini and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-30 with Architecture categories.

Illustrated by case studies from Europe, North America and the Middle East, this book examines how non-market values can be identified, measured and incorporated into planning evaluation methodologies. The traditional means of assessing planning options, benefit-cost analysis, requires that all effects be expressed in monetary terms and this volume offers alternative approaches. It presents strategies for accomplishing the major purposes of planning evaluation - including the provision of an explicit, replicable basis for public assessment - in alternative ways. Growing demand for public involvement and for accountability in decision making requires better means for accommodating a broad range of concerns in planning evaluation. Methodologies examined include effectiveness-cost and multicriteria analysis, and the book explores how these have been applied in practice in developing special-issue plans, complex regional development strategies, and efforts to analyze the environmental justice implications of major infrastructure projects. Use of scenarios and problem structuring methods by stakeholder groups are also explored.

Experience of the past decade confirms that the solution to infrastructure problems is not merely to expand capacity by making new investments. Much more systematic changes must be undertaken if service delivery is to attain the standards necessary to improve quality of life and allow economic output to expand more rapidly. This paper identifies several broad areas for reform and recommends a series of actions to attain effective service delivery. (Adapté du résumé de l'auteur).

This book provides recently developed and tested methods for assessing the strengths and weaknesses of planning and policy options. Several contributions focus on new substantive areas of concern in planning evaluation, including environmental justice and sustainable urban development. Applications of evaluation in several planning contexts are demonstrated, and special problems that these pose are assessed. Several chapters address how to communicate the process and results to several stakeholder groups, and how to engage these groups in the evaluation process. Each chapter employs a real-world case in practice, thus dealing with the complexity of applying planning evaluation, and providing practical advice useful in similar situations.

This book is written to help human service program administrators either in terpret or conduct program evaluations. Our intended audience includes admin istrators and those students being trained for careers in human services administration. Our focus is on persons interested in assessing programs in which people work with people to improve their condition. The book's title, Program Evaluation: A Field Guide for Administrators, describes how we hope you use this book-as a tool. In writing the book, we have attempted to meet the needs of persons who have to conduct program evaluations as well as those who must use those evaluations. Hence, we have attempted to make the book "user friendly. " You will find, for example, numer ous guidelines, cautions, and specific suggestions. Use the book actively. Our primary motive is to help administrators make better decisions. In fact, the primary reason for program evaluation is to help program administrators make good decisions. These decisions often must balance the goals of equity (or fairness in the distribution of goods and services among people in the economy), efficiency (obtaining the most output for the least resources), and political feasi bility. Take, for example, the administrator who must decide between a new program favored by some of the program's constituents, and maintaining the status quo, which is favored by other constituents.

Literacy Beyond Text Comprehension written by M. Anne Britt and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-06 with Education categories.

Literacy Beyond Text Comprehension aims to systematically investigate how readers interpret reading tasks within a situation, and how that interpretation influences reading behavior and comprehension. Presenting a new model of REading as problem SOLVing (RESOLV), the authors describe reading comprehension in terms of how a reader adopts goals within a particular situation that then guide what is read, when, and how. By applying the RESOLV model to a range of reading situations, this book provides evidence to suggest that there is no unitary understanding of a task, because individuals bring their own goals and characteristics to the situation; as such, it demonstrates the importance of understanding how a reader (e.g., student, test-taker, employee completing a work task) represents the context and the specific assignment. Written by internationally recognized learning sciences scholars, Literacy Beyond Text Comprehension advances the state of the art in reading research, but also seeks to inform a broader range of audiences, including those interested in the teaching and the assessment of reading.
