Embodied Spirituality In A Sacred World written by Michael Washburn and has been published by State University of New York Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-02-01 with Religion categories.
Anyone seeking a deeper understanding of human spirituality will find something of value in Michael Washburn's new book. Drawing on a rich variety of psychoanalytic, Jungian, and existential-phenomenological sources and on both Western and Asian spiritual texts, Embodied Spirituality in a Sacred World provides a theoretical foundation for the idea that human development follows a spiral path. Washburn shows that ego development early in life requires us to turn our backs on original sources of our existence and, therefore, that spiritual development later in life requires us to spiral back to these sources on the way to whole-psyche integration. He elucidates the underlying causes and pivotal events that set development on its spiral course and traces six major dimensions of experience as they unfold along the spiral path: the unconscious, the energy system, the ego system, the perceived other, the experiential body, and the life-world. In providing a theoretical foundation for the idea of the spiral path, Washburn defends the idea against its critics and helps explain why the idea has been compelling to so many people in diverse traditions.

How The Maya Built Their World written by Elliot M. Abrams and has been published by University of Texas Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994 with Social Science categories.
Maya architecture is often described as "massive" and "monumental," but experiments at Copan, Honduras, convinced Elliot Abrams that 300 people could have built one of the large palaces there in only 100 days. In this groundbreaking work, Abrams explicates his theory of architectural energetics, which involves translating structures into volumes of raw and manufactured materials that are then multiplied by the time required for their production and assembly to determine the labor costs of past construction efforts. Applying this method to residential structures of the Late Classic period (A.D. 700-900) at Copan leads Abrams to posit a six-tiered hierarchic social structure of political decision making, ranging from a stratified elite to low-ranking commoners. By comparing the labor costs of construction and other economic activities, he also prompts a reconsideration of the effects of royal construction demands on commoners. How the Maya Built Their World will interest a wide audience in New and Old World anthropology, archaeology, architecture, and engineering.

Knowledge Based Programming For Music Research written by John W. Schaffer and has been published by A-R Editions, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997-01-01 with Music categories.
In Knowledge-Based Programming for Music Research, Schaffer and McGee explore expert systems for applications in artificial intelligence (AI). The text concerns (1) basic principles for knowledge-based programming, (2) concepts and strategies for programming these systems, (3) a "universal data" model for music analysis, and (4) examples that concern specific aspects of design and application. The authors also investigate Prolog (programming in logic), one of the most widely used computer languages for AI, and base some of their applications on the recent implication-based theories of Eugene Narmour. Of the applications for programming a knowledge-based system, music analysis has the most potential. Beyond identifying isolated elements, it is possible to create programs that extend to chord structures and other, more complex structures. This kind of programming allows the authors to embed the rules of composition in the application and then extend the analysis throughout the musical work. It also allows them to arrive at the underlying principles for a given composition. As a tool for music analysis, such programming has profound implications for further growth. The text is designed for musicians at various levels and could also be used in courses on computer-music programming. Parts of the book have been successfully used in courses on computer programming for music research, with which the authors have direct experience. The text includes extensive examples of code for use in individual Prolog applications and a comprehensive bibliography.

This is the definitive guide to the life and work of Ken Wilber, widely regarded as the most comprehensive and passionate philosopher of our times. In this long overdue exploration of Wilber's life and work, Frank Visser not only outlines the theories of this profound thinker, but also uncovers his personal life, showing how his experiences influenced and shaped his writing. Wilber's impressive body of work, including nineteen books in more than thirty languages, brings together science and religion, philosophy, art, culture, East and West, and places them within the all-encompassing perspective of evolution. Visser's book follows Wilber's four distinct phases as he reveals not only the story behind Wilber's writing, but also the man behind the ideas. In recounting the course of Wilber's life and the motives that led him to the subjects he has written so much about, Visser uncovers the intricacies of one of the world's most important intellectuals. Included in this indispensable resource is a complete bibliography of Wilber's work.

Volume 27 of Reviews in Mineralogy provides a background to the TEM as a mineralogical tool, to give an introduction to the principles underlying its operation, and to explore mineralogical applications and ways in which electron microscopy can augment our knowledge of mineral structures, chemistry, and origin. Much time will be devoted to mineralogical applications. It provides sufficient information to allow mineralogists and petrologists to have an informed understanding of the data produced by transmission electron microscopy and to have enough knowledge and experience to undertake initial studies on their own. The opening chapters cover the principles of electron microscopy and chemical analysis using the TEM; while the following chapters consider mineralogical, petrological, and geochemical applications and their implications, for both low- and high-temperature geological environments. The Mineralogical Society of America sponsored a short courses in conjunction with their annual meetings with the Geological Society of America, and this volume represents the proceedings of the eighteenth in the sequence. This TEM course was convened October 23-25, 1992, at Hueston Woods State Park, College Comer, Ohio.
