Richard Dawkins's formulation of the meme concept in his 1976 classic The Selfish Gene has inspired three decades of work in what many see as the burgeoning science of memetics. This study is the first musicologically-orientated attempt systematically to apply the theory of memetics to music. In contrast to the two points of view normally adopted in music theory and analysis - namely those of the listener and the composer - the purpose of this book is to argue for a distinct and illuminating third perspective. The perspective is that of the (selfish) replicated musical pattern itself, and adopting it is central to memetics.

For this new edition, the author has added new chapters on infinitesimals and conditionals as well as taking account of reviews of the first edition.

The Rise And Fall Of The German Combinatorial Analysis written by Eduardo Noble and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-05-30 with Mathematics categories.
This text presents the ideas of a particular group of mathematicians of the late 18th century known as “the German combinatorial school” and its influence. The book tackles several questions concerning the emergence and historical development of the German combinatorial analysis, which was the unfinished scientific research project of that group of mathematicians. The historical survey covers the three main episodes in the evolution of that research project: its theoretical antecedents (which go back to the innovative ideas on mathematical analysis of the late 17th century) and first formulation, its consolidation as a foundationalist project of mathematical analysis, and its dissolution at the beginning of the 19th century. In addition, the book analyzes the influence of the ideas of the combinatorial school on German mathematics throughout the 19th century.

The Gift Of Science written by Roger BERKOWITZ and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-06-30 with Law categories.
Moving from the scientific revolution to the nineteenth-century rise of legal codes, Berkowitz tells the story of how lawyers and philosophers invented legal science to preserve law's claim to moral authority. The "gift" of science, however, proved bittersweet. Instead of strengthening the bond between law and justice, the subordination of law to science transformed law from an ethical order into a tool for social and economic ends.

Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646–1716), one of the most prominent figures in both the history of philosophy and the history of mathematics, but also one of the greatest advocates of Christian unity of the early modern period, may just have the solution to divisions within the Church with his unique understanding of the nature of the Church. Leibniz's unique theological metaphysics and pioneering thought on the centrality of the concept of person, makes his ideas on the nature of the Church particularly promising. The book presents how Leibniz's ideas are formed by history and meetings with extraordinary figures, and how these ideas mature and develop through time into a theological-metaphysics, and much later as a philosophy of personalism that secures Leibniz's place as an early pioneer of the philosophical movement of personalism. Leibniz on the Nature of the Church presents a historical, systematic, and provocative reading of these (until now) overlooked ideas.

Addressing a wide range of topics, from Newton to Post-Kuhnian philosophy of science, these essays critically examine themes that have been central to the influential work of philosopher Michael Friedman. Special focus is given to Friedman's revealing study of both history of science and philosophy in his work on Kant, Newton, Einstein, and other major figures. This interaction of history and philosophy is the subject of the editors' "manifesto" and serves to both explain and promote the essential ties between two disciplines usually regarded as unrelated.
