Approaching Business Models from an Economic Perspective examines business model logic and explores the model from different aspects including definition, design, functionality, elements, and self-sustaining logic. It explains the essence and core elements of a business model and unlocks its mysteries, helping transform business model practices into an expedient set of theories that in turn facilitate application in real scenarios. The book explores the logic behind the six major elements and enables entrepreneurs to study and implement business model theory and make decisions confidently based on a compelling logic. Moreover, it demonstrates through an array of convincing examples that a transaction structure and its six elements follow the principles of increasing transaction value, reducing transaction costs, and mitigating transaction risks.

This book presents qualitative methods, such as the theory and principles of business model design; quantitative methods, for example the business-model based "Accounting Method"; and the "Financial Analysis Method," based on the business ecosystem. Scientific Essay from the year 2014 in the subject Economics - Innovation economics, grade: 4-th year of PhD, Saint-Petersburg State University of Economics, language: English, abstract: In the article it is asserted that business model innovation potential has not yet been fully released first because of a lack of business model definition and a consistent methodological framework, second because, on a more general plan, the whole system of assumptions on which innovation activity of this kind has been based possibly needs re-evaluation. It is argued that a change of theoretical foundation is needed because of systemic inconsistencies which impede present approaches application. It is assumed that difficulties arise due to peculiarities of mainstream economics framework upon which these approaches have implicitly been built. While authors of neoclassical approaches admit outside factors influence on the business model, these factors remain conceptually isolated from the business model. To overcome this problem there has been suggested a framework for business model innovation based on the evolutionary economic theory. The evolutionary approach to business model innovation is characterised by focus on processes of long-term change and economic agents cause-effect relationship. It is being realised by reference to the evolutionary process that has moulded stable patterns of behaviour of companies on a chosen market. By this reference a trajectory of development of value perception and principles of value creation or business models can be traced and understood, since relationship between routines, value, and business models are mutually dependent. Generalised principles of value creation or basic business models of a market in question are to be adjusted to particular circumstances of an

Seminar paper from the year 2017 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,3, University of applied sciences, Cologne, course: Soft skills & Leadership Qualities, language: English, abstract: This paper examines new leadership models for the VUCA world. Nowadays, companies have to deal with unknown competition from everywhere around the world. This has changed business worlds into worlds of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA). The study begins by investigating the aforementioned VUCA attributes within micro- and macro-economic business environments. Following, five models for leadership in the VUCA world are described. Afterwards, it focuses on finding similarities between the previously described models. As a result, five important areas are defined that leaders have to focus on in order to stay competitive in the VUCA world. These areas are: Communication, analysis, flexibility, team orientation and vision. Over the last three decades, globalization and progressive digitization drastically improved living and working conditions of many human beings around the world. People have gained permanent access to knowledge over the internet, customers can order products worldwide and former language barriers were dissolved by the introduction of software for instant language translations. For many businesses, these achievements came with several side effects. For decades, organizations were able to create reliable mid- and long-term strategic corporate plans, as companies were aware of their (local) competition and upcoming product innovations. In order to remain successful in the new VUCA world, leaders have to adapt their leadership skills and behaviors to the new conditions.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Law - Tax / Fiscal Law, grade: 1,1, , language: English, abstract: Over the last few years, the sharing economy has grown substantially with new high-profile businesses emerging. Especially Airbnb became an integral part of the accommodation industry and disrupted traditional hotel and Bed and Breakfast businesses. However, at present, Airbnb has to face many controversies due to consumer safety, regulatory and tax evasion issues. As regulators and legislators established laws and regulations with the traditional economy in mind, they are not suited for the sharing economy and application often remains uncertain, especially in the area of taxation. Consequently, the difficulty of establishing an effective regulatory framework for the sharing economy is receiving considerable attention currently. Therefore, this thesis aims to identify some of the challenges that will be of concern to regulators when developing a regulatory framework and outlines some guiding principles for regulating Airbnb. Finally, this thesis finds that a self-regulatory approach could be the most effective solution to encounter the difficulties and controversy.

Master's Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - General, grade: 1,6, Blekinge Institute of Technology (Strategic Sustainability), language: English, abstract: The current global economic paradigm, centred on growth, is a significant barrier in the transition towards a sustainable society. Business-as-Usual companies operating within this paradigm are perceived to prosper at the expense of society and environment which is not viable on a finite planet. The need to rethink the purpose of business is inevitable as maximising shareholder value, has been deemed insufficient to create a sustainable society. This study aimed to explore: how business models can be used to create value that supports Strategic Sustainable Development. Previous research proposed that the concept of Business Models for Sustainability helps business place sustainability at the core of all consideration. A qualitative research was chosen for which we employed the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development and combined a literature review with an investigation of three expert groups to answer our research question. Our findings showed that, compared to other value forms, system value is the most appropriate concept for businesses striving towards sustainable development. Based on our findings, six themes emerged that businesses need to address to accelerate the speed of change towards sustainability. To make a relevant contribution to the intended audience, a prototype has been developed based on our findings.
