Analyzing Rational Crime Models And Methods written by Olof Dahlbäck and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-10-31 with Social Science categories.
Olof Dahlbäck's book breaks new ground for the analysis of crime from a rationality perspective by presenting models and methods that go far beyond those with which researchers have hitherto been equipped. The book examines single crimes, individual criminality, and societal crime, and it discusses thoroughly the general decision theoretical presuppositions necessary for analyzing these various types of crime. An expected utility maximization model for a single discrete choice regarding the commission of a crime is the foundation of most of the analyses presented. A version of this model is developed that permits interpersonal comparisons, and this basic model is used when deriving more complex models of crime as well as when analyzing the potential for such derivations. The rigorous, powerful methods suggested provide considerable opportunities for improving research and for seeing old problems in a new light.

The Supreme Court In American Politics written by Howard Gillman and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Law categories.
For decades political scientists studying the Court have adopted behavioral approaches and focused on the relatively narrow question of how the justices' policy preferences influence their voting behavior. This emphasis has illuminated important aspects of Supreme Court politics, but it has also left unaddressed many other important questions about this unique and fascinating institution. Drawing on "the new institutionalism" in the social sciences, the distinguished contributors to this volume attempt to fill this gap by exploring a variety of topics, including the Court's institutional development and its relationship to broader political contexts such as party regimes, electoral systems, social movements, social change, legal precedents, political identities, and historically evolving economic structures. The book's initial chapters examine the nature of the Court's distinctive norms as well as the development of its institutional powers and practice. A second section relates the development of Supreme Court politics to the historical development of other political institutions and social movements. Concluding chapters explore how its decision making in particular areas of law or periods of time is influenced by—and influences—its socio-political milieu. These contributions offer provocative insights regarding the Court's role in maintaining or disrupting political and economic structures, as well as social structures and identities tied to ideology, class, race, gender, and sexual orientation. The Supreme Court in American Politics shows how we can develop an enriched understanding of this institution, and open up exciting new areas of research by placing it in the broader context of politics in the United States.

"Juvenile Delinquency" provides a comprehensive, cutting-edge overview of all aspects of juvenile delinquency with a sociological focus. As Simon Dinitz, Ohio State University, says "Clemens Bartollas is genuinely interested in delinquents and in all those who work with and have contact with delinquents. This book reflects Professor Bartollas' abiding intellectual and emotional commitment to understanding and reducing delinquency, as well as ameliorating the personal and social ills that generate the massive delinquency problems not only in the United States but also in nearly all modern industrial nations." Every edition is thoroughly updated to reflect current research. Some exciting new updates in this edition: A new emphasis on the importance of human agency, or the interpretation and meaning that delinquents themselves bring to their social world¬ - as hot area within juvenile delinquency research. Coverage of delinquency across the life course, one of the most promising and exciting perspectives in studying delinquency today, can be found in each chapter. Increased focus on race and delinquency, especially in Chapters 7 and 10, allows for an examination of how racial factors affect the definition, handling, and processing of juvenile delinquents. An updated Chapter 10, "Gang Delinquency" provides more explanation of female gangs. Increased coverage of international juvenile justice in Chapters 14 and 15.
