Advances in information and communication technologies (ICT) make it easier to access, diffuse, communicate and manipulate large quantities of data, information and knowledge. To maintain our place at the forefront of our endeavours, Australian researchers need to respond to the enabling potential of advances in ICT. The e-Research Committee identified seven key issues to fully enable e-Research in Australia: human capabilities; access to data; need for linkage of e-Research resources; structural and cultural change; lack of awareness and support; need for a focus; and more collaboration in research.
