Fifty-four short devotions based on passages from the Hebrew Bible--written by some of the top biblical language scholars of today. The main point of each meditation in Devotions on the Hebrew Bible comes from a careful reading of the passage in the Hebrew Bible, not from an English translation. The authors use a variety of exegetical approaches in their devotions: grammatical, lexical, rhetorical, sociohistorical, linguistic, etc. Some insights focus on particular words and their role in the passage, while others highlight background studies or provide a theological reading of the passage. Each devotion draws students into translating a short passage and pursuing an understanding of why this or that insight matters for their lives and ministries. Devotions on the Hebrew Bible encourages professors, students, and pastors alike to keep reading and meditating on the Hebrew Scriptures and find new treasures from the biblical text. Celebrated contributors include: Daniel I. Block Mark J. Boda Hélène Dallaire Nancy Erickson Michael Williams Devotions on the Hebrew Bible contains a devotion on every book in the Old Testament and can be used as a weekly devotional or as a supplemental resource throughout a semester or sequence of courses.

The books of the Minor Prophets resound with fierce condemnations of injustice and stunning examples of Yahweh’s persistent mercy. Centuries-old prophecies come to pass, justice is served to corrupt leaders, and the oppressed are delivered. The book of Hosea presents an intimate allegory of God’s love. The books of Joel, Amos, and Zephaniah proclaim the judgment and blessing of the coming day of Yahweh. The book of Jonah shows God’s eagerness to forgive. The books of Obadiah, Micah, and Nahum vividly warn of Yahweh’s wrath on economic exploitation and the enemies of his people. The book of Habakkuk discusses why evil sometimes prospers. The books of Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi share prophecies of encouragement from when God’s people rebuilt the temple and reclaimed hope after decades in exile. These twelve books balance justice and mercy, inspiring us to live uprightly as we await the universal spiritual renewal and righting of wrongs Yahweh will bring one day. I will keep watching for Yahweh to break through . . . and I know my God will hear my cry. Micah 7:7

Judgment And Salvation written by Dustin G. Burlet and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-11-03 with Religion categories.

This book contends the text of the Noachian deluge narrative categorically underscores all God did to preserve life in spite of the disaster. Despite the picture of devastation that the narrative depicts, the prominent emphasis of the text is on deliverance and redemption, i.e., salvation, not judgment. The focus of the Genesis flood is acutely bent towards God's salvific rather than punitive purposes. The arc of salvation within the flood narrative can be broken down into two main ideas. Firstly, God's intention for creation is not thwarted, and, secondly, God commits himself to his intentions of creation. God's intention for creation can be stated thus: the establishment of order via covenant showing the sanctity of human life and the upholding of all life. This involves, in particular, humanity as his image bearers, including the lex talionis (life-for-life) principle.
