How can Christians witness to the complexity of our world? Gregg Okesson shows that local congregations are the primary means of public witness in and for the world. As Christians move back and forth between their churches and their neighborhoods, workplaces, and other public spaces, they weave a thick gospel witness. This introduction to public missiology explains how local congregations can thicken their witness in the public realms where they live, work, and play. Real-life examples from around the world help readers envision approaches to public witness and social change.

Public missiology is an emerging field of study that seeks to move the "public" to the center of missiological reflection. This case study on the Chung Hsiao Road Presbyterian Church (CHRPC), a local Taiwanese congregation, applies the theological framework of public missiology and seeks to understand the main issues that the Taiwanese people are facing along with the church's response to these issues. The study employs various qualitative research methods to identify six themes significant to the Taiwanese people: politics, gender issues, folk religions, funerals, migrant workers, and the contemporary Taiwanese family. It then examines how the CHRPC's response to these issues shows a commitment to shared values in navigating divisive topics. The CHRPC response to folk religion demonstrates an effort to transform a self-centered ideology into a concept of selflessness and sacrifice. Their approach to funerals communicates a message of hope and peace, integrating local Taiwanese customs without compromising the core values of the Christian faith. Additionally, the CHRPC treats migrant workers, whom many Taiwanese look down upon, as esteemed "angels." The church's engagement with the contemporary Taiwanese family reframes seniors and children not as liabilities and burdens, but as gifts that enable the contemporary family to experience "the way of love." The findings demonstrate that public missiology can draw out the implicit theologies of a local church, enrich our understanding of contextual theology in Taiwan, and steer individuals and society toward a flourishing public life, thereby moving closer to the fulfillment of God's mission in this world.

Public Theology In An Age Of World Christianity written by Paul S. Chung and has been published by Palgrave MacMillan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-04-15 with Religion categories.
This book aims to rearticulate and reinterpret a Christian concept of God’s mission and evangelization in light of the universal, irregular, and transversal horizon of God’s narrative as it pertains to the realities of public sphere. Paul Chung maintains that mission serves the Word of God which is revealed in Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit for all. It is salient to develop a theology of Trinitarian mission through the perspective of God’s living “word-event” in a hermeneutical, intercultural fashion. Here, a Trinitarian concept of missio Dei is deepened and refurbished in light of God as the Subject of speaking: through Israel, the church, and the face of innocent victims and religious outsiders. This perspective contextualizes and widens the mission of God’s narrative and deepens its universality in light of the word event.

Concepts Of Mission written by Francis Anekwe Oborji and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Religion categories.
Oborji's book embodies the principles of Robert Schreiter's 'new catholicity'. It sheds new light on how a missionary faith can be faithful to the Catholic heritage's concern for unity while nurturing cross-fertilisation from the cultures in which it has grown and from the riches of other religious traditions among which it lives.
