Dabei richtet sich der Fokus auf die individuellen Verhaltensmuster der Nutzer und Nutzerinnen der Live-Streaming-Plattform. In diesem Kontext werden acht Variablen spezifiziert, die jene Verhaltensweisen quantifizierbar machen. Diese reichen von statistischen Kennzahlen, zum Beispiel der wöchentlichen Konsumdauer, über die Benutzung von Twitch als Informationsquelle, des Chatverhaltens bis zu allgemeinen Nutzungsgewohnheiten. Daran schließen sich die Auswahlkriterien einer Übertragung, die Gründe für Geldaufwendungen, beispielsweise für Abonnements, und die favorisierten Rubriken an. Abschließend werden unter anderem die angesehenen Inhalte mit den persönlich präferierten Videospielen verglichen. Die forschungstheoretische Basis hinsichtlich des Spielertyps bietet das Player Trait Model. Ähnlich den modernen Praktiken der Persönlichkeitsforschung setzt dieses Modell nicht auf eine strikte Klassifizierung von Menschen, sondern vertritt die Auffassung, dass Spieler und Spielerinnen durch eine Summe verschiedener Eigenschaften zu charakterisieren sind. Die Präferenzen von Spielenden werden durch die Ausprägung der fünf Charakteristika Social, Narrative, Goal, Challenge und Aesthetic Orientation gemessen. In Anbetracht dessen wird der quantitative Forschungszugang gewählt. Zum Zweck der Datenerhebung kommt ein Online-Fragebogen (N=133) zum Einsatz. Die Daten werden mit Kruskal-Wallis-Tests sowie zugehörigen Post-Hoc-Tests in Bezug auf Unterschiede zwischen den fünf Spielerorientierungen hin analysiert.
