Based on extensive research and decades of experience, museum analyst and planner John W. Jacobsen provides both the theoretical underpinnings and the operational pragmatics of measuring any museum's intentional impact and performance by using 1,025 indicators drawn from 51 expert sources. Measuring Museum Impact and Performance: Theory and Practice provides museum professionals internationally with a clear, very open process that will improve their museum's value and performance by selecting indicators that monitor whether they are realizing their desired public, private, personal and institutional values. The book is not prescriptive, but liberating, as the framework recognizes that each museum needs to decide on its own purposes and priorities. The book is organized in two parts: "Part 1: Theory" is scholarly and builds on the museum field’s rich literature; and "Part 2: Practice" provides step-by-step methods for any museum to set up its own dashboard of prioritized impact and performance indicators. Substantive attachments include: the list of the 51 source documents for the MIIP indicators; definitions of terms and data fields; a long list of precedented museum impacts; measurement formulas and worksheet templates, filled in for a sample museum; and the MIIP 1.0 database available online. Readers will get the following benefits: A literature review of prior work on measuring museum valueAn analysis of eleven well-established evaluation frameworks that synthesize into a revolutionary, yet practical, Museum Theory of ActionA robust and searchable menu of 1,025 existing and aspirational indicators (the MIIP 1.0 database) that you can use to start your own selectionAn analysis of the MIIP database using the Theory of Action that reveals 14 areas of potential museum impacts and benefitsA process to select and prioritize your museum’s intentional purposes and desired impactsA process to determine, measure and compare your museum’s key performance indicators (KPIs) A process to set-up and conduct peer museum comparisonsProcedures and examples of how to capture and report data used in your selected indicatorsPrinciples for using indicator data to inform museum management decisions

The Role Of Today S Museum written by Clive Gray and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-04-07 with Art categories.
The Role of Today’s Museum provides a thorough investigation of what museums do and why. Arguing that museums are multifunctional institutions, the book examines the consequences of this for the services that museums provide, the publics to whom they are provided and the providers themselves. Adopting a wide perspective on understandings of the roles of museums and considering the different environments within which museums operate, Gray and McCall provide a new perspective on how transformations, as well as the gaps between intended policies and the actual work that is undertaken within museums, can be both identified and understood. By differentiating between social, economic and political visions and expectations of museums, the analysis in this book allows for a fuller understanding of what these organisations do and provide for their societies and the struggles and negotiations that surround their existence. The Role of Today’s Museum takes a critical, interdisciplinary approach to studying museums and museum policy. As a result, the book will be of interest to academics and students engaged in the study of museums, cultural policy, social policy, cultural sociology, public policy and cultural and political economy. Highlighting the gaps that exist between policy ideals and museum practices, the book also provides valuable insights to policy-makers and practitioners.

The Routledge Handbook Of Heritage And Creative Practice written by Nick Cass and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-11-25 with Art categories.
The Routledge Handbook of Heritage and Creative Practice explores the role of creativity as a tool for critical engagement with heritage. It provides a comprehensive study of ways in which heritage and creative practice intersect, in research, in practice and in a transnational context. This book introduces researchers, students, creative and heritage practitioners to contemporary practices from a breadth of perspectives. The transnational nature of its scope is key to the exploration of how ‘heritage’ and ‘creativity’ are ever evolving, conceived of differently in different contexts, and intersect in interesting ways through the work of creative practitioners. The volume argues that heritage itself is a creative practice, such that the ‘creative’ work that occurs in these examples is not singular and distinct; rather the symbiotic reciprocity between heritage and creativity is intersectional and embedded. The international array of authors and differing approaches from around the world, including case studies from Africa, Bahrain, Brazil, Caribbean, Columbia, China, Hong Kong, Iraq, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Oman, Qatar, United Kingdom and United Arab Emirates provide a global approach to the subject, while the diverse range of topics covered, including urban renewal, the coronavirus pandemic, memorial culture, public art and colonial heritage, allows readers to gain insight into the richness of practices across a diversity of disciplines and contexts. This volume offers a significant and new contribution to heritage studies that will be of interest to scholars and students in heritage and museum studies, as well those in the fields of art, architecture, anthropology, design, digital and curatorial studies. It also provides a valuable resource for artists, arts professionals, architects and museums and heritage practitioners.

The conservation of cultural artefacts, such as buildings, works of art and books presents a fascinating, rich and diverse range of scientific challenges, and the UK has a high reputation in the field, based in large part on past achievements. However, the Committee's report finds that our national standing is now under threat as the sector is fragmented and under-valued, and the DCMS has completely failed to grasp the threat to heritage science, and thus to conservation. The Department's emphasis on widening public access to our cultural heritage is a laudable objective, but this policy needs to be balanced by effective conservation, based on sound science, if we are to leave a sustainable cultural heritage for the benefit of future generations. The Committee also calls on the heritage sector to come together in developing a broad-based national strategy for heritage science, to be championed at departmental level by the newly appointed DCMS Chief Scientific Adviser, and co-ordinated administratively by English Heritage, drawing on input from all bodies active in the sector including those in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
