Drawing on two decades of survey research involving thousands of ministers nationwide, five social scientists explore the political lives of clergy in eight evangelical and mainline Protestant denominations, including the Assemblies of God, Southern Baptist Convention, United Methodist Church, and Presbyterian Church. They find that the competing theological perspectives of orthodoxy and modernism are increasingly tied to ideological and partisan divisions in American politics, and help illuminate the current relationship between church and state in America. Towards A New Paradigm In Monetary Economics written by Joseph Stiglitz and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-09-04 with Business & Economics categories.
Towards a New Paradigm for Monetary Economics presents a pioneer treatment of critical topics in monetary economics. Unlike the prevailing monetary theory, this book focuses not on the role of money in facilitating transactions, but on the role of credit in facilitating economic activities more broadly. The 'new paradigm' emphasizes the demand and supply of loanable funds, which in turn requires the understanding of the imperfections of information and the role of banks. One enlightening view is that credit is quite different from other commodities in the sense that the former is based on information and default risk. The book consists of two parts. The first part develops a basic model of credit based on banks' portfolio choices. The second part is dedicated to the policy implications, among which are the liberalization of financial markets, the East Asian Crisis, the 1991 US recession and the subsequent recovery.

Desiring to explore ways to quell hostility, reduce violence, and diminish the logic of terrorism, during the 2002-2003 academic year, Stetson University in DeLand, Florida hosted a series of lectures and discussions entitled Peace. Violence, and Religion. Musser and Sutherland designed this program, and the majority of the ten essays in this volume were delivered as public lectures in this series. The essays are connected by a central theme that knits them into a coherent volume: any possibility of lasting global peace depends upon dialogue between religions. The contributors explore the contexts of religious dialogue and the promise that such discussions will bring about a more peaceful world.

Athenian Identity And Civic Ideology written by Alan Lindley Boegehold and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994 with History categories.
In Athenian Identity and Civic Ideology, Alan Boegehold and Adele Scafuro bring together a distinguished group of scholars who explore the nature and meaning of Athenian citizenship. Departing from the narrow perspective of constitutional historians and also embracing sociological concerns, the editors' range of topics attests to a broad vision of the concepts of citizenship and civic ideology in a society in which the boundary between public and private, sacred and secular, is not always clear. Among the contributors, Philip Brook Manville and W. Robert Connor offer fresh critiques of the study of citizenship, while Frank J. Frost examines pre-Cleisthenic notions of citizenship. Alan Boegehold looks at social and economic motivations for the passage of Perikles's citizenship law of 451/0 B.C. Focusing on the fifth and fourth centuries, Ian Morris discusses changes in the visual manifestation of civic ideology in funeral monuments, while Josiah Ober offers an interpretation of Thucydides's history as a discourse that actively resists hegemonic public discourse. Robert W. Wallace examines what might be perceived as contradictions within civic ideology, namely, alleged infringements of intellectual freedom. In the final essays, with their focus on the fourth and third centuries, Adele Scafuro discusses the process of citizen identification in Athenian society; Cynthia Patterson examines the position of women in the maintenance of civic ideology; and David Konstan considers the relationship between sexual attitudes and civic status.
