Die SED-gesteuerte Geschichtsschreibung brachte zwar eine Flut von Heldengeschichten zur Arbeiterklasse im "ersten Arbeiter-und-Bauern-Staat" hervor, doch keine kritische Studie, die auch die sozialen Konturen der neuen Gesellschaft nachzeichnet. Außerdem konnte sich die SED bei ihrem Versuch, eine {OCLCbr#BB}Diktatur des Proletariats± zu verwirklichen, nie dem politischen und sozialen Magnetfeld der Bundesrepublik entziehen.
