Dedicated to Dr. Alain Guyot who played an important role in setting up and the development of Polymer Science in Lyon, and on the occasion of his formal retirement, the 4th International Symposium "Polymers in Dispersed Media" took place in April 1999 in Lyon, France. The present two volumes of Macromolecular Symposia contain 83 invited and contributed papers which are classified according to the three main topics of the symposium. Articles in volume 150 deal with "Polymerization in Dispersed Media", whereas volume 151 comprises contributions to "Non-Conventional Dispersion of Polymers", as well as "Properties and Applications of Dispersed Media".

Polymers Derived From Isobutylene Synthesis Properties Application written by Yu.A. Sangalov and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-03-08 with Science categories.

This monograph aims to give an overview of recent chemical and technological developments in the area of polymers and co-polymers derived from isobutylene, which have a wide range of (industrial) applications. The scientific basis for presenting the material aEURO" application of the acid-base theory with a view to the fundamental steps of isobutylene polymerization aEURO" is combined with the application of quantum-chemical calculations of catalysts, linked active centers, separate elementary stages of the process, and critical analysis of some experimental data. In addition, a number of problems, such as the macrokinetic description of isobutylene polymerization, description of the balanced scheme of industrial production of isobutylene polymers, and initiation of isobutylene polymerization with the help of immobilized cationic catalysts are discussed. Special attention is given to ecological aspects of synthesis and application of isobutylene polymers. This book will be of value and interest to researchers in the areas of chemistry and physics of high-molecular compounds, as well as engineers and technologists specialized in the area of olefins and polyolefins.

Heat Resistant Polymers written by J.P. Critchley and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1983-07 with Science categories.

Definitions of what is meant by a heat-resistant polymer vary considerably. We have taken the term to mean a polymer which can be used, at least for short time periods, at temperatures from 150°C. The greatest problem which arises in writing a monograph on such materials is the tremendous amount of data that is available. More than 2000 references have been published on one heat-resistant polymer system alone over a period of little more than two years. The result is that a very high degree of selectivity must be exercised with respect to the information reproduced. We have chosen to restrict our coverage to polymers that have received at least some degree of commercial exploitation and to details of their methods of preparation, their thermal and thermo-oxidative stabilities and modes of degradation, and their properties at elevated temperatures. It must be emphasized that other properties not cited, e. g. , hydrolytic and chemical stability, and resistance to ultraviolet radiation, may be equally important in particular uses of these materials. The "older" heat-resistant polymers, e. g. , the thermosets and some of the fluorine-containing materials, are not dealt with in such depth as are the "newer" polymers with aromatic and/or heterocyclic rings in the chain. This is because books have been available for some time on the well-established commercial polymers and developments in them have not been as marked re cently as in the aromatic and heterocyclic macromolecules.

Mechanical Properties Of Polymers And Composites written by Robert F. Landel and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993-12-14 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This text, now in its second edition, offers an up-to-date, expanded treatment of the behaviour of polymers with regard to material variables and test and use conditions. It highlights general principles, useful empirical rules and practical equations.;Detailing the specific behaviour of many common polymers, the text: places emphasis on time and frequency dependence over temperature dependence; uses contemporary molecular mechanisms to explain creep, stress relaxation, constant strain rate responses and crazing; provides explicit equations to predict responses; supplies a discussion of large deformation multiaxial responses; compares statistical and continuum theories on the same data set; and updates stress-strain behaviour and particulate filled systems.

Polymers From Plant Oils written by Alessandro Gandini and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-11-16 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Unique state-of-the-art book on an important topic in renewable materials The purpose of this monograph is to provide a thorough outlook on the topic related to the synthesis and characterization of original macromolecular materials derived from plant oils, an important part of the broader steadily growing discipline of polymers from renewable resources. The interest in vegetable oils as sources of biodiesel and materials has witnessed a remarkable growth of scientific and industrial interest since the beginning of the third millennium responding to the pressing drive to implement sustainability in the energy and materials sectors. The book highlights the most relevant strategies being pursued to elaborate polymers derived from a variety of common oils, by direct activation or through chemical modifications yielding novel monomers. Because glycerol is the main byproduct of biodiesel production, it is treated here as the other logical source of macromolecular synthesis. Each of the different approaches is illustrated by an introductory layout of the underlying chemical mechanisms, followed by examples of notable achievements in terms of the properties and potential applications of the ensuing materials, which span a wide range of structures and performances. In particular, original pathways involving click-chemistry reactions as thiol-ene and Diels-Alder couplings and metathesis polymerizations are discussed and shown to reflect the involvement of a growing number of research programs worldwide.
