Mathematics Of Optimization Smooth And Nonsmooth Case written by Giorgio Giorgi and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-03-10 with Mathematics categories.
The book is intended for people (graduates, researchers, but also undergraduates with a good mathematical background) involved in the study of (static) optimization problems (in finite-dimensional spaces). It contains a lot of material, from basic tools of convex analysis to optimality conditions for smooth optimization problems, for non smooth optimization problems and for vector optimization problems. The development of the subjects are self-contained and the bibliographical references are usually treated in different books (only a few books on optimization theory deal also with vector problems), so the book can be a starting point for further readings in a more specialized literature.Assuming only a good (even if not advanced) knowledge of mathematical analysis and linear algebra, this book presents various aspects of the mathematical theory in optimization problems. The treatment is performed in finite-dimensional spaces and with no regard to algorithmic questions. After two chapters concerning, respectively, introductory subjects and basic tools and concepts of convex analysis, the book treats extensively mathematical programming problems in the smmoth case, in the nonsmooth case and finally vector optimization problems.· Self-contained· Clear style and results are either proved or stated precisely with adequate references· The authors have several years experience in this field· Several subjects (some of them non usual in books of this kind) in one single book, including nonsmooth optimization and vector optimization problems· Useful long references list at the end of each chapter

Implementing Microsoft on AWS Optimization is a practical guide for professionals managing Microsoft workloads on AWS. This book explores strategies, tools, and techniques to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and ensure regulatory compliance, making it an essential resource for cloud practitioners Beginning with an overview of AWS cost optimization, the book introduces readers to foundational concepts, including the Well-Architected Framework and AWS Cloud Financial Management principles. It delves into selecting the right EC2 instances and EBS storage for Microsoft workloads, offering actionable insights into balancing performance and costs. Licensing is a major focus, with dedicated chapters on Windows and SQL Server licensing strategies. Readers will learn how to leverage BYOL (Bring Your Own License) options, optimize CPU usage, and consolidate instances to cut costs. Additionally, elasticity through Auto Scaling, workload automation, and appropriate pricing models, such as Spot Instances and Reserved Instances, are explored in-depth. It also highlights AWS cost management tools and services, teaching readers how to monitor and optimize cloud spending efficiently. Modernizing Microsoft workloads is another key topic, showcasing how adopting cloud-native approaches can unlock significant savings and long-term benefits. This book equips readers with the knowledge to master cost management for Microsoft workloads on AWS. Whether you're an IT manager, cloud architect, or business leader, this guide leads the way to achieving cost-efficient cloud success. What you will learn: What are the top cost optimization strategies for Microsoft workloads on AWS. Explore AWS tools and automation for streamlined cost optimization. How to optimize compute and storage costs by selecting the right AWS resources. How to identify and eliminate wasteful spending to drive savings and create value. Who this book is for: This book caters to professionals involved in AWS Cloud projects. It is also ideal to for cloud architects, developers, CTOs, and CFOs.

Theoriginofevolutionaryalgorithmswasanattempttomimicsomeoftheprocesses taking place in natural evolution. Although the details of biological evolution are not completely understood (even nowadays), there exist some points supported by strong experimental evidence: • Evolution is a process operating over chromosomes rather than over organisms. The former are organic tools encoding the structure of a living being, i.e., a cr- ture is “built” decoding a set of chromosomes. • Natural selection is the mechanism that relates chromosomes with the ef ciency of the entity they represent, thus allowing that ef cient organism which is we- adapted to the environment to reproduce more often than those which are not. • The evolutionary process takes place during the reproduction stage. There exists a large number of reproductive mechanisms in Nature. Most common ones are mutation (that causes the chromosomes of offspring to be different to those of the parents) and recombination (that combines the chromosomes of the parents to produce the offspring). Based upon the features above, the three mentioned models of evolutionary c- puting were independently (and almost simultaneously) developed.

Evolutionary algorithms are relatively new, but very powerful techniques used to find solutions to many real-world search and optimization problems. Many of these problems have multiple objectives, which leads to the need to obtain a set of optimal solutions, known as effective solutions. It has been found that using evolutionary algorithms is a highly effective way of finding multiple effective solutions in a single simulation run. Comprehensive coverage of this growing area of research Carefully introduces each algorithm with examples and in-depth discussion Includes many applications to real-world problems, including engineering design and scheduling Includes discussion of advanced topics and future research Can be used as a course text or for self-study Accessible to those with limited knowledge of classical multi-objective optimization and evolutionary algorithms The integrated presentation of theory, algorithms and examples will benefit those working and researching in the areas of optimization, optimal design and evolutionary computing. This text provides an excellent introduction to the use of evolutionary algorithms in multi-objective optimization, allowing use as a graduate course text or for self-study.

In its thousands of years of history, mathematics has made an extraordinary ca reer. It started from rules for bookkeeping and computation of areas to become the language of science. Its potential for decision support was fully recognized in the twentieth century only, vitally aided by the evolution of computing and communi cation technology. Mathematical optimization, in particular, has developed into a powerful machinery to help planners. Whether costs are to be reduced, profits to be maximized, or scarce resources to be used wisely, optimization methods are available to guide decision making. Opti mization is particularly strong if precise models of real phenomena and data of high quality are at hand - often yielding reliable automated control and decision proce dures. But what, if the models are soft and not all data are around? Can mathematics help as well? This book addresses such issues, e. g. , problems of the following type: - An elevator cannot know all transportation requests in advance. In which order should it serve the passengers? - Wing profiles of aircrafts influence the fuel consumption. Is it possible to con tinuously adapt the shape of a wing during the flight under rapidly changing conditions? - Robots are designed to accomplish specific tasks as efficiently as possible. But what if a robot navigates in an unknown environment? - Energy demand changes quickly and is not easily predictable over time. Some types of power plants can only react slowly.
