This book is about immigrant women of colour in the US and particularly in the ivory tower. Collectively, the narratives in the book strive to further the discourse regarding the multiple interrelationships of identity, culture, self, others, pedagogy, and institutions of higher education. The accounts that follow describe what it means to be a transnational student, professor, scholar, and administrator within the contested terrain of higher education. The women in this book have experienced the halls of academe in different ways, not always as faculty at a research university. The narratives are organised geographically and draw out the experiences of the third wave of immigrants coming from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean (or West Indies), and Latin America. This book brings together the multidimensional voices of immigrant women of colour to chronicle the immigrant experience in the United States.

Immigrant Women In The U S Workforce written by Georges Vernez and has been published by Lexington Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-01-01 with Political Science categories.
This book represents a first effort to systematically describe the experience of immigrant women in the U.S. labor market over the past thirty years. It may come as a surprise that the United States is currently home to more immigrant women than immigrant men. However, until this study was conducted, the attention of analysts and policymakers has focused solely on the labor performance of immigrant men. Georges Vernez's analysis of immigrant women's experience is the first to break this trend, revealing a complex story that resists easy interpretation. Some immigrant women succeed beyond all expectations, while others struggle all their lives and have little to show for it. In examining the myriad factors that contribute to the success and failure of immigrant women in the U.S. workforce, this book provides a profile of their changing origin and characteristics; describes what they do, where they work, and how they fare in the U.S. labor market; and looks at the use they make of public services to support themselves.

The Specific Training Needs Of Immigrant Women written by Colette de Troy and has been published by Luxembourg : Office for Official Publications of the European Communities this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1987 with Business & Economics categories.
A specific study of the training needs of immigrant women is justified for two reasons : firstly, that they are active in the economy and secondly that they do not enjoy equal access to employment. The number of immigrant working women in the Member States, contrary to the most widespread stereotypes, is very high and is growing all the time. The most recent OECD report on the integration of women into the economy shows that proportionally more immigrant women than indigenous women work. These figures are increasingly backed up by national studies. These data certainly show that there is an increasing proportion of women amongst immigrant labour in general, but we must see this in the light of the place which these women occupy on the labour market. It appears very clearly from the statistics that they hold low-status, low-paid jobs which require few qualifications and which are amongst the least protected.

Seeking Identity written by Raymond A. Belliotti and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Philosophy categories.
Outlining the unwritten but deeply ingrained system of moral codes that Italian immigrants brought to America, Belliotti examines that system in relation to moral theorists who argue we owe the most to people close to us and those who contend we must attach no special weight to our own interests when determining proper moral action. He also investigates philosophical, historical, sociological, and political aspects of government authority, examines conflicting images of Italian immigrant women, and analyzes war and pacifism.
